In the middle of the forest on a lonely path was where Michael first met you.
—————
Michael's gathered up his sword from the ground breathing heavily as he sheathed it back on his waist and wiped off the dust of his black regal tunic, as he went to go look for his horse that ran away from him. He had just been attacked from the enemy kingdom, and being an amazing swordsman, he was able to fend himself, making the knights of the enemy kingdom run away.
As he walked along the open field, he spotted his horse grazing on the grass there. It wasn't out of the ordinary for him to be attacked, for his kingdom was at war. The neighboring kingdom and his were at war for land, and although his mother would want him back in the castle and protected...that wasn't what Michael wanted. He wanted to be out here in battle, protecting his land and people from the foreign invaders; it was his responsibility as future king of his land to protect it, and he did so with pride and honor.
When he reached his horse, he quickly saw his red silk cape with his family's royal crest on the back in beautiful golden color letters and peeking from the satchel was his crown; he thought about wearing it but then thought against it because it basically made him a target, and although he did want to defend his kingdom, he wouldn't expose himself to too much danger.
He mounted his horse, spurring it to start running wanting to get to where his kingdom's militia and army were, wanting to help as much as he could. He really didn't want this war to fight; he wanted both kingdoms to set a truce and live in peace. Michael hated wars because he always questioned if it was worth the countless lives that would be fought and lost, families that will forever miss a member of their family? But either way he loved his land and its people dearly, so if they were threatened, he would defend it.
Michael was on his way, remembering the path that would lead to the location of the militia and knights, and the closer he got the more on guard he had to be, for the location was practically on the border of both lands. He slowed down to be more alert if anything seemed out of the ordinary.
He was close, but there on the trail, hidden by hood was a figure, whoever this person was held a silver blade in their hands. He really didn't want to deal with this, but there would be no way to get through without going through this person. He thought that if he approached quickly on his horse the figure would move out of the way, but the masked figure held their stance firmly and didn't seem like he or she would budge.
He pulled the reigns of his horse back, making his horse come to a stop as he got off making sure that his cape and crown were hidden from the masked figure in the satchel on the horse's saddle, last thing Michael wanted was for him to be taken hostage should the hooded person find out he is the heir to the throne.
"Are you going to move?" he asked the masked person.
No response whatsoever. Michael knew that the only way he would get through, was to defeat the person in front of him. He reached for his blade, taking it out again, and took his stance to fight. The figure took stance as well, and before Michael could register, the hooded figure began to run towards him.
Michael was surprised; not many people charge head first, but as this person lifted their sword to strike, Michael defended himself with his blade, metal clashing against metal, and he knew that this person was skilled, most likely trained from childhood. Michael tried to strike back, but each of his strikes seemed to miss; this person easily dodged and defended themselves easily.
Michael once again went for the strike, and this time he at least made some sort of contact with the hooded stranger. His sword was able to slash across the cheek area but nothing too damaging; it didn't help him to identify his attacker. Michael needed to go, but this person was a very worthy opponent keeping him from leaving. But the hooded stranger was made as another strike this time made the hood fall, revealing (h/c) and the face of a beautiful girl.
Michael was stunned; this person that put up a great battle was a girl?! You thought about covering your face but realized that it didn't even matter since he knew you were a girl. You gripped your sword ready to strike your foe, who you still didn't know who he was.
But Michael on the other hand felt bad for even striking you with his sword, he hurt a girl, something very against his morals. He sheathed his sword; he refused to hurt a girl and raised his hands, not wanting to hurt you any longer.
"You're giving up?" you said.
"I refuse to hurt a girl, no matter what kingdom she is a part of," he said like the prince he was.
"So you're not going to fight me because I'm a girl?" you said feeling angry that he wouldn't take you serious because you were a girl; he took you serious a while ago, but now, he refused to fight you.
"Yes," he said staring at you.
You were mad, how dare he not want to fight you because you were a girl, but either way you decided that you wouldn't hurt this stranger, not until he agreed to fight you. You were going to approach him, but Michael noticed something that you didn't.
There shining was a silver string that was barely noticeable, but as he looked around, he noticed that it was a trap, a trap that was going to trigger the release of a large trunk to fall on you. He didn't know who would set up this trap, but he knew that he had to get you out of the way, because enemy or not, his inner desire to help anyone was something that he couldn't ignore.
"Wait stop!" he shouted out to you, but it was too late.
You already triggered the wire, and you could already hear the sound of something breaking, and as you looked up, you could already see the large trunk getting ready to fall. You braced yourself for impact, since you felt paralyzed to your location, keeping you from moving. Your eyes shut close, waiting for the log to hit you in the head, but the only thing that you felt was someone pushing you and sending you to the floor. You opened your eyes and saw the red haired stranger underneath the log.
He saved you; you immediately got up and went over to him. The side of his head was starting to bleed, most likely from hitting the ground, and the log lying on the center of his back. You hoped that he didn't hurt himself that badly, since he really had no reason to save you, and the least you could do was return the favor.
You gripped the sides of the log and began to push it off his body, at least to allow him to breathe, and it took you a while since it was a lot heavier than you thought. Surely if this had hit your head, like it was originally going to do, it surely would have killed you.
Your arms ached with pushing the log off, but you went over to him and rolled him on his back. The moment you rolled him on his back, you noticed him wince in pain that made his eyes flutter open and lulled when he saw you. He raised his hand and placed it gently on your cheek, "So beautiful," he said as he caressed your cheek and then lost consciousness, but it still made you blush because the last thing you expected was for him to compliment you. But you really did need to help him.
You began to shake him awake, hoping that he could get himself up and on his horse as you would lead him to a village to help him.
Michael woke up and asked the question he's been waiting to ask, "What's your name?"
"(Your full name)," you said as you helped walk him over to his horse so at least it would be easier to get him to a village that was neutral to the war so neither your people or his would be angered.
His eyes widened at hearing your name, but you didn't notice. He should have known from the moment he saw you, but he didn't.
He realized that you were the princess of the neighboring kingdom, the kingdom that his was at war with, the princess he just saved and was receiving help from.
