My Love. . .In G Minor

The golden light lazily dripped down the walls as I slowly walked around the room lighting candles. Due to the relatively small chandelier dangling from the lofty ceiling, they were somewhat unnecessary. I am quite fond of fire however, so I slowly walked around the room lighting candles. I heard a knock on the door. The butler poked his head into the above-par dining hall to tell me my guest would soon be arriving. I cast my gaze around the room one last time; for my nerves had me convinced, something was amiss. The table was draped with a crisp while tablecloth, set with glossy black plates and elaborately crafted silverware. Moreover, the crystal stemmed glasses were nothing to turn down ones nose at. Climbing up the backs of the chairs were skillfully carved roses. They look as living as the blood red roses perched in the middle of the table.

There was another knock on the door. "Your guest is here ma'am." The butler tried to hide the hint of laughter in his voice. He failed. I gave the butler a subtle nod as my guest walked through the door. I looked at my guest as the gramophone awoke to lead its orchestra on a quest through the joy and tribulation of Mozart's symphony number 40, in G minor. The latch on the door clicked shut as the butler left the room.

"Good evening, Darling." My posh British accent stirred the air in the room that had gone untouched by Mozart's 40th.

"Same to you, My Love." I smirked at his equally fake, posh British accent. "I'm so happy to see you again, Levi." The words spilled out of my mouth as my feet joyously skipped across the room so I could hug my boyfriend. He hugged me back then slowly let go with a confused look on his beautifully adorable face. "The first course is spinach salad with olives, feta cheese, corn, and . . ." I let my words fade as I waited for him to guess. "Shrimp, I presume?" "Topped with a balsamic vinegar dressing," I replied with a quick nod of my head. He took my hand and led me to my seat. He even pulled out by chair for me. Like a proper gentleman, I thought to myself.

Our meal arrived soon after Levi took his place across the table from me. His face looked soft as the golden light of the candles flickered about the room. "That was delicious! I didn't love the shrimp to spinach ratio though; but that's beside the point," he paused. "How did you come up with the ingredients?" I grimaced at the memory. "I once thought malt vinegar and olives was a good idea." Levi nodded as if he had gone through a similar culinary mishap.

The door opened as servants came in to take away the salad bowls, now empty, and replace them with our main course. I smiled happily, as my plate was set down in front of me.

"Oh steak, how I love thee." I looked up to see Levi looking mildly offended, but still cute. "Oh dearest Levi, I love thee as well." I saw a lovely smile tug at the corner of his mock, stern expression. I smiled back and picked up a steak knife.

The pink meat had been grilled to bring out all the flavor potential stored in the generously portioned main course. All the course had was steak; but the steak was excellent, so we did not mind that there were no vegetables to waste room on our plates. The servants returned. This time dessert arrived with them. Our plated were once again cleared away, and our glasses were filled with water, cold as ice.

"So, what is for dessert, My Love? Something sweet?" "Not as sweet as you, my dearest Levi," I sang. Levi blushed and looked away as I smiled like a proud five year old. He looked back at me with that lovely smile of his. "For dessert we are having pineapple cheesecake." I could still hear a hint of smile in my voice. The cheesecake had a gram cracker crust; the cheesecake itself was rich and smooth. It was still cold as I took my first bite of dessert.

"How was your cheesecake?" I inquire as my eyes rest lazily on the beautiful boy seated across from me. He smiled. "Not as sweet as you." He slowly stands up and makes his way to my side of the table. "Milady," Levi says in a posh British accent as he bows politely and offers me his hand. "Milord," I reply in a voice equally as posh, if not more so. I take his hand as he leads me into the hallway outside the above-par dining room. We walk hand in hand to the end of the corridor, where we must go our separate ways.

"Good night, Darling," I said as I looked up into his beautiful, blue-ish green eyes. "Same to you, My Love."

In LA 2 we read a short story about a cafe so our teacher gave us a writing assignment. We were supposed to write about a meal with a person and describe the food and music and lighting etcetera.

I might have gotten a bit carried away.

Please let me know what you think about my story.     . . .Thank you for reading?

P.S.   This was almost going to be titled Steak. . .In G Minor   or    I Smiled Back and Picked Up a Steak Knife. . .In G Minor
