"Taylor!"
"I'm up mom, leave me alone!" I yelled back rolling over in my bed and stuffing my head under my pillow.
"Taylor, get up, you have to get ready for school." She pushed me to get up and start getting ready.
"I wouldn't have such a problem getting up if we didn't have to move! Again!" I pushed her out of my room and shut and locked the door behind her.
"I'll be back in thirty, you better be ready!" My mom yelled through the door, ignoring her I plugged my phone into my speaker playing my music loud enough to drown out the sound of her voice.
Slowly, I started getting dressed in ripped skinny jeans, with a black crop top and I slipped on my one pair of shoes that I always wear and moved to do brush my naturally straight hair and do the little bit of make up I wear each day. Grabbing my backpack, I ran down the stairs where my mom was yelling and rushing me into the car.
"I don't understand why every year, we have to move and I have to start over at a new school."
"Taylor, you know that I have no control over this and if I did this wouldn't be my decision. It's hard on me too you know." My mom said and I rolled my eyes and unlocked my phone scrolling through my twitter timeline.
As we pulled into the school parking lot, everyone was walking into the building.
"Go, you're going to be fine, have a good day. You're a senior Taylor, just get through one more year and I promise this is the last time we will ever have to move because then you'll be in college." She fake smiled as I stepped out of the car and slammed the door shut.
The school was big, really big. I definitely thought I would get lost walking around. Right when you walked in the front doors, the noise and chatter of the kids in the halls filled your ears. Sneakers squeaked on the freshly polished floor and the lockers and walls looked freshly painted, ready for the new year.
Luckily the main office was right next to the front doors so I didn't have to walk all over to find it. I got a copy of all my classes and a diagram of the large school to help me around.
Walking through the hallways, paintings covered the walls outside the classrooms. They were truly beautiful. In the halls, I could tell everyone was watching me. When you go to a new school every year you get used to the looks and learn not to bother with them and just keep walking. Never making eye contact.
I walked into my first class, and sat down, alone, just as the bell rang.
As the morning passed, class after class, I slowly got my way around the school. For my first free period, I walked to the library where I could hopefully just sit and relax with a book.
The library was empty, besides me and the librarians.
Shelf after shelf I had finally found a book to look through.
Right away I turned around in the direction of the tables I had seen earlier. I picked a seat and put my bag down and sat down.
At the table in the far corner against the wall, was a tall boy with long curly hair.
He had headphones in and his back to me, so he had not seen me sit down.
"I walk this empty street, on the boulevard of broken dreams," He mumbled, gradually singing louder.
"Where the city sleeps, and I'm the only one and I walk alone" He belted out the words.
As he sang, he had captured my attention, and I found myself watching him, as he sang.
"I walk alone," He started to turn around as he sang, "I walk alo- oh my god. Sorry, that was-"
"Green Day," I cut him off, "I know." And the biggest smile covered his face and I opened the book I had pulled off the shelf.
"I didn't know anyone was in here usually Mrs. Dean, doesn't mind I'm usually the only one in here," He scratched the back of his neck as he walked closer to me, "I'm-wait, you know Green Day?" He seemed shocked.
"Yeah," I shook my head and my eyes followed him over to the seat at the table across from me.
"Why don't I know you?" He asked starring into my eyes.
"Taylor," I stuck out my hand to him, "I'm new." I said
"Ashton," He said and shook my hand, "I like new, new is good." He said and smiled and I pulled my hand back.
I smiled and opened up my book again.
-
"Did you make any friends?" Mom tried to make conversaiton with me as we ate.
"No." I said avoiding telling her about the boy who liked Green Day.
"C'mon T, you can't stay mad at me forever."
"Yes, I can." I stood up and pushed in my chair, cleared my plate and went back upstairs to my room.
