“Kayley!” Alex sure did have a noisy yelling voice. “Kayley! Get up! You missed breakfast and showering for god’s sake!  You’re gonna miss your free time!”  No way was I getting up.  Nope nope no—

“WHAT THE HELL!?” I jumped up.  Alex had a guilty face on, and he dropped the pillow he was holding.  “Did you just hit me with a pillow?!”

“No! Why would I do that?!”  His guilty face turned into a cheeky smile.  I jumped up  and grabbed the pillow, hitting him. “How dare you hit me with a pillow!” I screamed at him.

“OH MY GOD DROP THE PILLOW, KAYLEY.  I MIGHT DIE IF YOU  DON’T!!!”  Alex sounded totally different.

“Alex… Do you have an accent?!”  Oh this was going to be oodles of fun.

                “What?! No no!”

“You’ve got a British accent! You’ve been covering it up!”

He sighed and let the American accent drop, “Okay.  I confess.  I confess, but I saved you breakfast!”  Suddenly, nothing else matter but the banana, milk, and grits sitting at the bedside table.

“…. I’d just like to say sorry for anything I’ve done to you and said to you.”  Of course, Alex laughed at what I said. I hated grits, but I was hungry.  I grabbed my food and started chewing on my banana, and stuffed down the grits and drank the milk like a new born kitten.

“You eat like a pig, for such a skinny girl.”

“Shush!” I threw all the stuff away.

“Come on. It’s time for ‘free time’.”

“I don’t want free time,  Alex!”  I could tell by the look he gave me, that he was going to bring me outside by throwing me over his shoulder. “PUT ME DOWN!”

“No no. Shh sh, Kayley..  Shhh.”

                “ALEX!”

“I can’t wait to hear that name being yelled tonight.”

“You’re disgusting.”  There was no way out with him carrying me.  He was so busy laughing at his own joke, that I thought he was going to drop me.

“You know it’s going to happen!!”

“Oh it’s not going to. Never.” I snarled at him. He gently put me down in a sand box outside.  I looked around and realized that the place was surrounded with fencing and people that looked half dead, and just really sad.  Some that had been in the hospital for about two weeks… they actually looked happy.

Alex smiled down at me and sat in front of me.  I smiled back at him and started building a sand castle.   He laughed at my art work, “You’re doing it wrong.”

“How am I doing it wrong?!” You just don’t tell a girl that she’s building her sand castle wrong.  It’s not right.

“Hello. I’m Carson.”  A guy with a robotic voice said.  It looked like I was never going to learn how I was doing it wrong.  I looked at the guy.  His bleach blonde hair gave the affect that he was paler than usual. His eyes were baggier than a normal person’s.  He was skinny.  He was so skinny that his skin was clinging onto his bones, but his arms made him look like he lost a lot of weight fast, but he looked… young… In an extremely weird way.. I guessed it was because his skin looked smooth.

“Hi, Carson. . . Sit down next to us!” Alex smiled at the guy.  I didn’t want to be near him.  No no no no no no no no no not at all.  Oh my god, what was Alex thinking!?

“My personal doctor told me to make friends. . . Will you guys be my friends?”

“Of course, Carson.  I’m Alex.” Alex and Carson shook hands, and then Carson started playing in the dirt.   He smiled, and only looked like a baby.  I could tell that Carson wasn’t a bad person… He just needed food and sleep and a tan.

It wasn’t long before a doctor came to take Carson away.  The doctor was smiling at Carson, and Carson was beaming as they walk away with the doctor going on about how proud he was that Carson was making friends.

“Let’s go inside.  Activities are about to start and I don’t want to get caught up in the rush.”  Alex picked me back up, and I really didn’t care this time.  I knew I was going to get used to it.  I had no choice
