JESENIA

USA – CALIFORNIA

I wake up to the birds chirping amidst the green trees. Sunshine is threatening to break through the leaves as I lay on the dirt ground, my body bare and full of energy from the night I, and the others, just had. Images of last night's hunt flashes through my mind, and a smile instantly creeps up onto my face.

"Someone woke up rather chipper this morning" I jump at the sound of the voice, how had I not noticed? I jump up off the ground with a bright smile on my face. "Well, how could I not? It was amazing last night" I reply as I deeply breathe in the fresh morning air.

"Got any clothes?" I mindlessly ask as I brush some of the dirt off me and remove a couple of twigs from my hair. "Yeah" he answers and tosses me my silk robe. I catch it without problem and wrap it around me, still not turning around to face him.

I sigh happily as I stretch my muscles. "What's the time, mi hermano?" I ask and finally turn around to Ric. He simply shrugs and starts walking towards the house. "Well, did anyone make breakfast?" I ask again, whilst jogging after him.

"Of course, Grim would go berserk if he didn't get his food" he chuckles and shakes his head. I laugh and throw my head back. "Very true" I reply with a smile. We walk in silence for a while, just enjoying the peacefullness.

"By the way, how did it go with Marcel last night? He left in kind of a rush after you two spoke" He asks, making my steps falter slightly as the sting to my heart returns. Ric looks back at me with a raised brow. "He said he was fine but..." I bite my lip and look down.

He takes a step towards me. "But what, mi hermana?" I inhale deeply. "He, um, he asked me if I knew how it felt to care for someone else when you're in a relationship" I whisper, so not even the trees can hear me. But he can easily hear me. "Huh?" he seems confused.

"You heard me" I sigh, and walk past him, still not looking up at him. "Wait! Nia, come on" he grabs onto my hand, making me stop. "Are you okay with that? Because, if it makes you uncomfortable, we can just keep him away from you when we have to talk to him" Ric says with sincerity in his eyes and voice.

I nod, and give him a brief smile, even though it hurts knowing that I'll have to stay away from him. "Thanks" I answer and embrace him in a warm hug. A delicious smell hits my nose, and we both inhale it deeply. We release each other from the hug, smiling mischievously, before dashing off towards the house, laughing like two kids.

Ric won our race, obviously. He's the fastest, that and the fact that he pushed me into the river. I'm getting him back for that. "Did your morning swim go well, Jesenia?" he snickers whilst shoving his mouth full of pancakes.

"Ha ha, very funny" I narrow my eyes and point my finger at him saying, "I'm getting you back for that, mark my words, you soggy bastard". He throws his hands up, as if I was pointing a gun at him. "Please don't, have mercy, kind princess" he pleads with doggy eyes while putting his hands together.

Footsteps behind me stop me from continuing the charade. "What in the goddess' name are you two doing now?" the familiar voice belonging to my nephew asks as he scratches his head. "And why do you smell like wet dog?" he yawns in between his words.

I shrug. "Ask the pompous prince over there" I answer whilst dismissing our chef. "I did nothing, las perras siempre mienten" he says nonchalantly, a smirk playing on his lips. I gasp and throw a roll towards his head, hitting him hard. "I'm hardly a perra, and I'm not lying" I purse my lips whilst shaking my head.
