Remember? - Avneil Drabble

This was inspired by a friend who showed me her family album.

„Remember this?", she asked leaning back against his chest, softly caressing the photo with a fond smile.

„Yeah, it's my favorite", he said, wrapping his arms around her middle and putting his chin on her shoulder.

Flashback

It was the first day of Avni starting work after the pregnancy and maternity leave. Even though she was confident that little Anisha and Mowgli would be more than fine, she couldn't help but feel anxious about leaving them alone.

Neil ensured her time and time over that she didn't need to worry, he'll take care of everything and if he needed help, he'll have Bebe and Shweta by his side.

With a heavy heart, she kissed all of them goodbye and left to the office.

Even though she felt guilty at first, as soon as she stepped into the office, she was greeted so warmly by the whole office, so that she was able to push her worries further back in her mind. She realised how much she had missed working.

The day went by very quickly, it was a lot since she had to be briefed on what she had missed in the passed months. The few texts and pictures Neil sent throughout the day calmed her down more than she ever thought it would. She felt so grateful to have such an amazing family.

When she finally left the office, it was already dark. She bid her co-workers goodbye and went back home.

When she arrived at their home, she was met with an unusual silence. Frowning she opened the door and stepped in. „Neil?", she called softly, but there was no answer.

Gulping she decided not to get anxious too quickly and went to the kids' room, which was empty as well. Now her heart beat started to pick up. ‚Where are you?', she asked and with quick strides she went to her and Neil's room and quickly opened the door and froze in place.

There they were, her perfect family. Neil was laying on his back, holding Anisha who was laying on her stomach securely against his chest and Mowgli was also tugged against his side, held protectively by Neil's arm.

Her eyes welled up at the sight! Before she got too emotional she took her phone out and took a picture.

Flashback end

„Mine, too", she said. „I think the reason why she still sleeps on her stomach is because of you!", she said smiling and turned her head to look at him.

He just shrugged and gave her a quick kiss. And that's how they continued reminiscing the memories...
