"Stop! I'm going to die from laughing so much, that was so funny! I still can't believe we did that Keira, we could've gotten in so much trouble!" I laughed. I was on FaceTime with my best friend from high school, she recently moved with her long-term boyfriend from high school to another state, and we were having our weekly FaceTime call so we could catch each other up on what happened that week. "We were fucking crazy girl, I don't even know what happened to us. We used to be so fun."

She was in the midst of responding when I had to stop her, "Hold on a second, I think I heard someone knocking." I sat for a minute but figured it was probably just the pouring rain outside. "Sorry, I thought I heard something, continue with what you were saying."

She finished what she was saying, and I heard the knocking again. "Okay, I think I'm hallucinating, I keep hearing knocking."

"Well then go look to see if someone's there!" she laughed at me, wondering why I hadn't already checked.

I rolled my eyes at her, "Fine, but I'm keeping you on FaceTime. If I don't come back within 5 minutes, it was an ax murderer at the door and they killed me and I'll blame it on you!" I yelled at her as I got up and walked from the living room towards the door.

"Well you'd be dead so you can't say anything to anyone then!" she yelled from my computer screen, making me giggle to myself.

"Shutup!" I yelled before reaching the door, opening it slightly as my heart stopped. My ex-boyfriend was standing on my front porch, soaking wet, his clothes stuck to his body and his hair flat on his head and dripping.

"Connor?" I asked, making sure I wasn't hallucinating like I swore I was earlier.

He gave me a small wave, "Hey, sorry if I woke you up or anything, I just couldn't think of where else I could go." he said, shrugging his shoulders.

"Um, ok," I said, standing there with my arms crossed in front of my chest, still not convinced that I should let him into my house.

"Can I come in to dry off? I won't be long, I promise," he asked, looking quite desperate.

I don't know if it was because I was cold, because I was tired of watching him standing there like an idiot, or because I was afraid that Keira would think that I was actually killed, but I welcomed him in and before getting him a towel, I ran to the living room.

"Keira, I'll call you later, Connor's here," I said quietly so he couldn't hear me from the foyer.

Her eyes widened, "No way." She sighed, "Don't do anything stupid, don't forget what he did. Love you, talk to you later." she said, blowing a kiss to the screen before hanging up. I closed my laptop before grabbing a towel from the bathroom closet, returning to the foyer and giving it to Connor.

"Thanks," he said, taking it and beginning to dry himself off. I just nodded and headed to the kitchen to get myself a drink.

"So why'd you come here, out of all places Connor? I haven't talked to you since we broke up." I said from where I was, my voice echoing through the empty house.

I was in the midst of pouring my glass of water when he replied, "The boys kicked me out of the group." I stopped pouring. "My family hasn't talked to me since the last time that you and I were together, I have no other friends around here, and I have no car, so your house was the closest one I could walk to. Sorry for coming though, I'll be gone in like five minutes, I just have to call a cab.

I was fighting with myself, holding back the urge to feel sorry for him, trying not to tell myself that I should let him spend the night, but I couldn't resist. I went back to the foyer, where Connor was scrolling through his phone, clearly looking for the number of a taxi, the towel wrapped tightly around his body.

I sighed, "I won't ask any questions, it's none of my business, but you can stay if you want. The guest bedroom is available if you need a place to stay tonight."

I took a sip of my water and watched as he looked up from his phone, "Really? I wasn't going to ask, I was just gonna get a taxi and stay at a hotel."

I nodded my head and sighed a bit, "Yeah, it's fine."

"Thanks, I really appreciate it," he said with a small smile.

I shrugged, "I'll go make up the bed in the guest bedroom--" I was in the midst of saying before he but in.

"No, you don't have to make up a bed for me, the couch is just fine. I'll be totally fine, really," he said, making his way to the living room, which he was familiar with of course.

"Okay, well, let me get you a pillow and blanket then, it's cold down here," I said, heading upstairs before he could say anything else. I searched through my closet for a blanket and pillow, finding some other stuff while doing so.

When I returned back downstairs, Connor was looking around at the pictures on the walls, completely unaware that I was there. I cleared my throat, and he spun his head around, standing up quickly. "Here's a blanket and a pillow," I said, handing them both to him. "I also found some of your old clothes in my closet, guess they're coming in handy now," I said, placing them on top of the pillow and blanket pile in his arms.

"Thanks," he said. "Sorry again for bothering you, it won't happen again."

"Just stop mentioning it, it's fine," I said, he was sounding like a broken record at this point. "Good night." I said with a small wave before leaving to head upstairs to my own room.

"Goodnight," he said.
