"Chaos is an angel that fell in love with a demon."
- Christopher Poindexter
Elek, by Me.
Mia watched silently as Elek finished playing. She'd never remembered hearing something that was simultaneously so tragically sad yet so stunningly beautiful. She felt herself blink back to reality. She'd unconsciously been staring directly into Elek's eyes, who returned the look with fervor, before Lukas's voice pried her from her stupor. She hadn't realized until then she'd been gawking so openly at him and a light blush found its way to her cheeks.
Lukas sung Elek his (rightful) praises and offered him (also unsurprisingly) the task of writing the music for their upcoming play. She knew from the moment Lukas had languidly ushered Elek in what he'd intended. Lukas had a knack for finding just the thing he was looking for. His trip to Budapest had been lengthy. His intended purpose had been to find the perfect musician for the job, but had regretfully came up empty handed. Mia could tell he was frustrated when he wrote to her. His usual elegant scrawl a bit haphazard. She could picture him writing it perfectly; brows furrowed, a hand in his hair, his fists a bit too tight around the quill. Yet, all the same, Lukas had happened by chance upon this young man. A young man of great talent. And precisely the talents he needed.
Lukas had always been that way. She, much like everyone else, was fooled by his lighthearted and almost boyish facade. Despite the clumsiness and excitable nature he exhibited at first glance, Lukas was nothing but the calculated hunter. She'd watched him before dazzle and enrapture anyone he deed useful for his purposes. Even herself, she thought adsently. The theater was her families, which was to eventually be given to whomever she was to marry, being the only child. Mia Burg. She'd hear whispers of how unfortunate it was that her brother had passed away so young, so full of promise. Himself a great actor and stunningly handsome to boot. It stung in a way Mia couldn't quite describe. Only that it made her bite her inner cheeks in a mixture of anger and shame. Was she not a good enough actress? Was she not competent enough to run the theater? Heavens knows, between her brothers womanizing and near constant drinking, she'd been doing it for years before her father stepped out of his own retirement to once again take up charge.
Yet, this was something she'd always kept to herself. Blessed with money, Mia had been able to get a top notch education. She could read and write, her mathematical skills superb (which kept the theater afloat back before her brother's untimely death) and of course, her wit strong. She was determined, capable, and driven. All things her brother had sorely lacked. He was chosen simply because of his birth. So when Lukas had come around, she'd been taken with him. He was equally as driven, equally as passionate about the theater, perhaps even more so than herself. He didn't push her opinions aside or think less of her, in any way. Of course she had fallen for him, it was only natural. Much to the delight of her father. He could rest easy now that his daughter and his theater were secured in Lukas's capable hands.
