"Please mom! There has to be some way that you can take me." I hear my 14 year old sister, Mia, whine to my mom as I walk down the stairs. I yawn and eavesdrop on their conversation.
"I'm sorry honey. There's just no way I can take you. I have to be at work in 30 minutes and your father won't be home from his business trip until tomorrow night."
I throw my blonde hair into a top knot and sit down the couch, which was diagonal from our kitchen where my sister and mom were arguing.
I furry my eyebrows in confusion. "What are you two talking about?" I ask.
"Okay, well you know how I have this crazy obsession with Shawn Mendes, right? Like he's my husband. We're going to get married some day."
I roll my eyes and nod. If I have to hear my sister talk about that stupid singer one more time I'm going to lose it. She's been obsessed with this guy Shawn for years now and my family and I are tortured into hearing about her love for him everyday.
"Well, he's having a free meet and greet downtown today. And mom won't take me!"
I scoff. "I don't blame her! You think that she's going to take the day off work so you can see this stupid pop singer, who probably isn't even that good?"
"How dare you!" She raises her voice at me. "He's the sweetest guy ever. And he's super hot."
"Yeah, I bet." I sarcastically say. " I'm sure he can't even sing that well."
Suddenly, my sister gets a grin on her face, which I know only happens when she has an idea.
"Unless..." she starts, "Ellie takes me today!"
"What?" I burst out.
"I think that would be nice!" My mom says as she starts packing her briefcase for work. "You two could bond for the day and Mia could meet Shawn. There's lots of things to do downtown, too. You could shop, eat, maybe go up the CN tower."
"Please, Ellie." She pleads. "You would be the best older sister ever. I don't get to see you often so this could be like bonding for us. And plus, you'd meet my future husband."
Right now, I'm living in a house I rent with my best friend, Ally. I'm in my second year of university and occasionally on weekends I'll come and stay with my family for the night.
Of course, the few times I come here I get coerced into things like this.
"Fine." I give in. "But I have class tomorrow, so mom would you be able to pick her up from my house?"
"No problem, sweetie." She says.
"Alrighty, lets go meet your husband." I playfully roll my eyes.
Mia squeals as she hands me the car keys. "I cant believe I'm going to meet him today!"
-
"This is the line we have to wait in?" I say in disbelief, as we walk past the 50 fans in line so we can find the end of the line. "This line is going on forever."
Mia and I step in line and after about 20 minutes, we start to hear screaming.
"Shawn! Shawn!" I hear everywhere from the start of the line to the end, as I look to the front to see a tall, pale boy with dark hair at the front.
"Now, I need everyone to listen carefully to me." I hear a deep voice yell at all of the crazy fans. I look to see a tall yet stubby bald man whom I'm guessing was Shawn's body guard walking down the line. "Please have your phones out so that we don't waste any time. Shawn will only be doing selfies and we want this to go by as quick as possible.
I look to Mia to take out her phone and I see a hint of panic in her eyes.
"What?" I ask.
"Where's my phone?" She says.
She frantically searches through her pockets and my purse to find her phone, as we see the tall boy approach us quicker and quicker, going down the line taking selfies with all of the fans.
'Actually, he's pretty darn hot' I cant help but think to myself.
"I must've left it in the car!" She says. "What am I going to do?"
"Don't worry," I calm her down. "I didn't drive you down here for nothing. You can just use my phone." I say, as I hand her my brand new IPhone 7+. "Just be careful with it, please."
I step out of the way as I see Shawn take a selfie with the girl in front of my sister.
"Hi hunny." Shawn says to Mia as he grabs the phone from her hand to take a selfie. I can tell she's star struck as she barely says one word to him.
He snaps the selfie and then as he hands my phone back to her, I watch in disbelief as the phone slips from the pop stars hand, and smack face down onto the concrete.
"Oh, shit!" He says. "I'm so sorry."
"Dude!" I manage to get out, as I quickly hurry over to my phone to pick it up. I grab the phone and of course, with my luck, the phone is shattered to pieces. I stare in awe at my brand new phone's destroyed screen. "It won't even turn on." I say, at the failed attempt to get my phone to work.
"Oh, Shawn! Its okay! Don't even worry about it." Mia says.
"What do you mean don't worry about it? I just bought this for over $1000 of my own money and its destroyed."
"God, I am so sorry." Shawn says as he looks at me. "I'll pay you back for it."
"No, you don't have to do th-"
"Uh, yeah. You're darn right you will." I say as I cut my sister off. Crossing my arms, I look up at the handsome boy. Damn, was he cute.
"Here, let me give you my phone number and-" he cuts himself off. "Oh, I guess that won't work."
"Um, yeah." I say, giving him attitude. I was being a bit of a bitch but I don't care. That stupid guy broke my phone.
"Do you live around here? I could come by later and drop you off the money. I just don't have it with me right now."
"Yeah, I guess so." I say, as he hands me his phone to put my address into it.
"Here," I say, handing it back. "I made sure not to drop it like you did mine."
