A few days after applying at the bookstore in town I got a call from the owner asking when I can start. I tell him as soon as possible, so he put me on the schedule for today and Friday to start and then I will work Monday through Friday every week.
I can't contain my excitement so I run downstairs and tell my family the good news. "That's great! As a congratulations I'm going to buy you a cell phone. I know you don't have one and you don't have a car yet so I want to make sure you always have a way to reach one of us should you need to." Aunt Jennifer says kindly. I don't want to burden her by having her buy me one but I also didn't want to worry her so I let it go.
"Okay, I appreciate it." I state kindly.
We all sit down to eat the omelettes Kristen had been cooking while I announced my news. They are fluffy and soft and hit the spot. After I help clean up I go to my room to get ready for my first day. I shower and put on a black pair of khaki pants and a plain red t shirt, which is the "uniform". I put on a little mascara and some lip gloss and meet my aunt outside.
I hop into her blue truck and buckle up. She drives us into town, making a stop at the electronic store. We make our way inside and she tells me to pick the phone I want, giving me a price range of up to $400. I grab an older android phone and we pay up at the counter.
The gentleman helps us activate it and adds it to my aunts plan for the time being. "Thank you so much! I will pay you back as soon as I can." I exclaim, giving her a warm hug.
"Never mind that sweetie, we are family. I just want to help you after all you have been through." She replies, her eyes starting to tear up.
"Don't cry, it wasn't the best situation but I'm getting past it. My life will go on and maybe I will go back to school and get a career. Everything else can follow on it's own. Just because he beat me down physically doesn't mean he broke my spirit." I say, holding back tears myself.
I give her another hug and tell her I can walk from here. The book store is only a few blocks away and I would enjoy the fresh air. "Don't worry, I have my handy-dandy cell phone." I say, whipping it out of my back pocket and smiling like a dork.
My aunt laughs at me, gives me a kiss on the forehead and gets into her car. I wave to her as she drives away, smiling to myself I start the short walk to the bookstore. The sunlight warms my face and the breeze smells divine. I sigh happily as I turn the corner. Not paying attention I run smack dab into someone's chest.
He reaches out to steady me before I fall backwards. I look up to thank him and apologize when I'm met with a familiar pair of breathtaking hazel eyes. I'm stunned into silence as I stare into his gorgeous eyes that are framed by long eyelashes.
He still has his arm at the small of my back where he grabbed me to stop me from falling. I can feel the heat from his hand coming through my shirt. I start to blush and he clears his throat and releases me.
"Th-thank you." I say to him, still blushing like crazy. He reaches forward to brush a stray hair out of my face. My lips part as I feel pleasant little shocks where his skin touches mine. He retracts his hand so fast I'm left confused.
I look at him curiously and he replies, "Um.. yeah just watch where you're going." He steps around me and keeps walking. That was weird.. I think to myself as I shake the encounter off and continue on my way. I feel like I've seen him somewhere but I can't quite put my finger on where..
I finally make it to the bookstore and Trinity gets right into training me on stocking the shelves, where to properly put books and how to ring up customers. The day went by really fast and before I knew it the shift was over.
