Neverland, I imagine you've heard stories of how it is such a beautiful and magical place, how mermaids sunbathe on the shores of the beach and everybody's best friend is a fairy. You've been told it's a magical place where everyone is happy, Magic is a way of life.
A few of those factors are true, but never land isn't at all the magical place it used to be.

A girl stood in the sand, watching as oily water ran over her feet and ankles. Her brown hair was tied back into a high ponytail, though even then it still almost touched the ground. The moonlight seemed to bring peace upon the island, though that was all just a farce.
The peaceful creatures that once inhabited the island had been twisted into beasts, some of them large, others the size of a small rabbit. Whatever dark magic had consumed them, it drove her from her home, but even the water wasn't safe. Those merfolk who'd chosen to stay in the water has morphed into something twisted, Its believed that those who live outside of Neverland refer to them as Sirens.
In her arms was a book, though it was closed it would be hard to miss the subtle golden glow that the pages emitted. The book in her hand was what was called The Book of Neverland. Original right? The book contained everything about Neverland, from a nap of the underwater cave systems the mermaids used to the tunnels the other inhabitants used. It showed ship wrecks, it showed when the fairies changed the seasons and where they got their dust from. Most importantly it contained every significant event in Neverland's history.
The girl in the water, her name is Anna, and she's been the keeper of the book for the last three hundred years.
The keepers of the book are chosen at random, when they are born the have five golden rings on their skin, a birthmark if you will. They don't age, they don't feel the need to eat or sleep, and they can keep on living for as long as they want, so long as they aren't mortally wounded. They are immortal, but the aren't Superman, they are still very much human.
Opening her eyes, they were a dead match to the golden bands around her eyes, they seemed to glow in the moonlight, she was an easy target with them, though she no longer seemed to care.
Turning to face the dead trees that now made up the island, she shrugged and walked back towards the sand. She could see shadows moving, knew that she was being watched, as the keeper your taught magic to defend both you and the object itself.
She smirked and pulled out one of the small pouches that were strapped to her belt and held it out. Undoing the strap on it, she tossed it into the air.
A shimmery golden dust covered her. Everything from her black shirt to her loose brown pants began to float, eventually she did to. It was the last thing she had. Though she had fairy dust with her for now, it wouldn't last forever. She'd find a safe place to stay for the night, tomorrow she needed to get off the island. Somebody had to be able to help her, Peter was gone, so it would be a long shot, but her next stop would be Captain Hook.
