You have different difficulty missions. C rank missions = super easy
B rank missions = easy
A rank missions =normal
S rank missions = hard
*SS rank missions = super hard

*SS rank missions don't appear always. They are very difficult and only appear rarely.

As you can see SS rank missions have no continues. If you want to do a mission you can use 1 ninja pearl and continue if you died. That's not possible for SS rank missions.
