Chapter  1

My mom told me that I should get out more and do more teenager stuff, other than sitting at home and watching Comedy Central all day. That’s definitely a lie, because I don’t watch TV all day. At 7:30 every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, I go to Greenwood College, even though I’m 17. I’ve been going to the college to be apart of this group that can help you get a scholarship into the college. Basically, you have different assignments each week and you get a final score on Thursday. It’s like a 10 times better version of school. The assignments aren’t like book reports. They are around the subject of community service, but it isn’t exactly community service

Since I should be out, I decided to go to a midnight beach party for the seniors at Alani Beach. (Not in Hawaii)

“Mason!” I heard my nickname being called as I parked the Prius I got for my 16th birthday. I turned and waved to my best friend, Nathan walking up the beach. I walked down the cement steps, and met him about halfway up the dry.

“You going surfing?” He asked me.

“Not this time.” I responded as I ran my fingers through my hair. He nodded back as a response. He nodded his head as a result of being cool with my answer.

“Hey, have you seen Monica?” He asked me. I shook my head no.

“Just got here.” He nodded and turned to leave. “Nathan, wait.” He turned. “What am I suppose to do here?” I asked him. I don’t usually come to these things, but if I did, I wouldn’t be one of those people who think it’s a brilliant to make out with everyone in sight, and not remember it the next day.

Nathan shrugged and took off with his surfboard. I stuffed my hands in my jean pockets and headed to the shore of the beach. I saw a bunch of Juniors hanging around Upperclassmen. (Seniors) One especially caught my eye. Long brown hair, skin tone darker than others, but not too  different. She wore very short high waisted jean shorts, a blue bikini top with white polka dots, and I think I spotted a white and blue anklet around her ankle. I’m not going to lie, she was pretty hot. I looked back at the dark waves hitting the lighter sand, but when I looked back at the girl, she was making out with some dude who was in my Calculus class.

“Figures.” I mumbled to myself as I sat on the sand. I didn’t have anything to do, since Nathan was probably off doing something with Morgan. He was the whole reason why I came to this. I pulled out my phone and called him. Nathan had brown hair that almost went to his eyes, but cut it every time it did. He wore jeans most of the time, and had green eyes. He’s attractive, but surprised me when he got a girlfriend, being the way he is. Nathan isn’t a bad guy, he’s really quirky and can be smart, but most of the time… How can I put this nicely? He’s stupid and childish. But I love him, he’s my best friend.

“Hello?” He answered in a small voice.

“Nathan? Where are you?” There was a rustling noise.

“Um, I went to pick up Mo, and we’re sorta… sitting… in the car.” His voice got quieter as if he was talking to someone else. “Okay, okay.”

I thought about that for a second. “Okay, that’s a little gross…” I trailed of. His voice jumped quickly.

“No! It’s not like that, I swear!” He yelled into the phone and I heard Morgan’s laughter in the background. I chuckled.

“Okay, whatever you say.” I said as was led by my own laughter. “When you guys get done, come to the beach. I’m all alone.” After I said that, I heard another rustling noise.

“Awe! We’ll be right there Mason!” I heard Morgan’s voice tell me. I laughed.

“Thanks, Mo!” I said and hung up the call. I looked back to my left and saw the girl in the blue bikini top. She was leaning on the guy who was sucking her face earlier. She looks like she had too many drinks, but I can’t judge a cover right? Yeah, no. Honestly, I know a snobby popular when I see one.

My thoughts were interrupted by Morgan’s arms around me. “Mason!” I laughed.

“Mo!” I laughed and hugged her. I’m like a brother to both Nathan and Morgan. Mo is just as quirky as Nathan, so I guess hats how that happened.

I looked back at the girl, and her eyes met mine.

“You alright, bro?” I was shooken by Nathan.

“Yea. I’m good.” He pat my chest and we started walking, but when I looked back at the girl again, she was gone.
