The walk back was lonely, and almost eerie. The sheer thought that I would be risking my life in this very forest was menacing, and this isn't even the bad part.
I quickly found myself out of the forest and back at the village, and Jessica was waiting for me. She wasn't waiting for me as in the "finally your back and safe" sort of way, it was more like "I can't wait until you get busted and punished, you'll be sorry."
She was actually waiting about 100 feet away, and when she saw me she ran inside. Her mother cane out along with her, flagged me down and walked quickly towards me. I call it the old lady sprint.
"Is this really how you treat a lady to a date?" Were the first words out of her mouth. I almost chuckled because I forgot that I had lied to her about the whole date thing. "First you tell her to leave the one place we call home, then you proceed to call her nasty names?" Her side of the story was biased as I presume Jessica told it, so I shrugged and said "Yeah."
"Hmph, well good luck finding another," she snapped back.
"He is dating Madi mom," Jessica interjected.
Her mom was already turned around and on her way back when she asked "Oh so you are a cheater on top of it? You aren't going in a pleasant direction young man." I really like how Jessica doesn't knock the fact that we weren't actually on a date, but I assume she is staying quiet because it makes her mom even angrier at me, and more supportive of her. I didn't really care, as long as they didn't go blabbering their mouth to Quinton about my plans.
"That's it Lloyd, I am telling Quinton." I need to learn to shut my own mouth sometimes. She stormed off to her house and I figured she was bluffing. Sarcastically, I wanted to say that Quinton's office was in the other direction, but I figured since she could read my mind it wouldn't be a great idea.
Almost defeated, I walked back in the direction of my house, where I saw Madi and three other people standing next to her. She actually got some people to go along with it, impressive.
"What I turnout you have, can't say the same about myself." She turned around to the sound of my voice and acted surprised.
"There you are! We have been waiting," she responded. "Did you get anybody?" She acted as if I were capable.
"No, but I did ask someone and she refused."
"Who did you ask?" At this point all three of her recruits were waiting for a formal introduction as I was probably about to upset her.
"Jessica." Uh oh, she already knew what went wrong.
"Asking Jessica, a notorious snitch, was really a good idea to you?"
Again, with the shrug of shoulders, "Yeah."
"Well we better get moving," she said eagerly.
"Woah woah woah, we can't leave yet. Let's pack and prepare, we will leave tonight if it is such a big deal."
I was excpecting an arguement but to my surprise. "Yeah I guess you're right. Ostro!" She yelled. "Keep watch of Jessica's house, and if she leaves to snitch alert us, got it?" Yes ma'am.
"Okay then," I thought to myself. How did she get them to want to leave the forest, let alone get them to accept her as this much of a leader.
"But wait a second there before you go, let me introduce you all to Lloyd." Finally, what I have been waiting for.
"Lloyd, this is Ostro, Ivy, and Questa," she said, naming them from left to right. "They will be coming along with us into the forest tonight."
"Nice to formally meet you all," I awkwardly said, especially because I knew them all before.
