Screet, screet, screet. Mya groaned as she flung her hand out at her alarm clock. She never had to wake up early before, when she was homeschooled. She rolled out of bed and onto the floor, startled when she hit something soft. "Humphrey!" Mya sighs as she stands up. Humphrey stares at her, his enormous eyes thick with sleep. Mya sinks back to the floor and strokes his soft fur. "Good boy, Humphrey. Yes, you're a good dog." She crosses the room to her closet and pulls out a blue polo and a pair of jeans.

Drying her hair with a towel, Mya walks downstairs. She spots a muffin on the counter and smiles. Her Mom must have gone to the bakery before work and brought this back. "Thanks, Mom." Mya mouths. Her eyes skim the clock on the microwave and she sprints up the stairs, throwing the towel into the hamper. She grabs her bag and, after a few seconds of indecision, flings her precious poetry book into the front pocket of the bag.

The day passed in a blur, that is until the bell rang for 5th period. As Mya stood, a tall, blond girl in a crop top and miniskirt started toward her. Mya walked out the door and down the hall to 5th, and she was shoved into the lockers from behind. The blond was smirking, chuckling as her cronies pinned Mya to the lockers. "I see you've been spending a lot of time with Aron. That's not such a good idea. He's mine, bitch, mine!" " I never-", Mya started to say, but the blond cut her off. "If you touch him, I will destroy you. Got it?" Her tone, even if it was light, was menacing. Mya gulped audibly and nodded. The blond smiled and flicked her wrist, telling her friends to let go. Mya stumbled to calculus in a daze.
