12- Big Girls Don't Cry

Annabeth’s POV

*DING*

I reached out for my phone from bed, imagining it was Thalia asking if I had gotten better, but it was Luke. A groan escaped my lips as I opened the message.

‘Hey, Annie’

I didn’t answer, but I got another message from him right away.

‘You called me a cheater?’

First I was confused about what he meant but then he sent me a picture of Calypso and Percy hugging.

‘Seriously? Hugging doesn’t mean anything’ I answered but I admit I was a bit jealous on the inside.

‘But that’s not the end of the story’ He answered and again, he left me confused. I waited for him to explain and he sent another picture, which broke my heart into a million tiny pieces. It was a picture of Percy and Calypso kissing. I could not believe my eyes, I skip school once because I was sick and next thing I know; Percy is out there kissing girls like Calypso. And it had to be my worst enemy.

I didn’t answer Luke, but instead, I called Thalia.

“Hey Annabeth, how are you feeling?”

Not good. I was honestly about to cry, how could Percy do something like that to me?

“Thalia, I’m feeling horrible,”

“Should I get you anything from the pharmacy or something?”

“No, it’s not about that, I’m actually not feeling as sick as before,”

“Then what is it?”

“It’s Percy,”

“What about him?”

“Well, Luke sent me a picture of him and Calypso…kissing,” I told her, and she took a while to answer.

“Thalia? You there?”

“Yeah, yeah, I just can’t believe Percy would do something like that, after being so mad at Luke for cheating on that girl, and now he is the one cheating?” I thought about that for a moment.

“He wasn’t technically cheating though, since we were never official. It was just one kiss,”

“You mean two kisses? Yeah mhm we saw that one too,” I blushed a little when she said that, “And even if you weren’t official, he’s a jerk for playing you like that. He made you think you guys had something and now he’s kissing Calypso! That’s just wrong. I’m coming over in a few minutes, don’t move!”

A few minutes later, Thalia was in my room, and she had brought food.

“We have to call the girls for an emergency meeting!” She said, but I groaned.

“If we do, we are gonna have to explain to them everything that happened yesterday and I’m just not in the mood for that,” I told her and we agreed on calling Piper only, who arrived a few minutes later.

“What’s going on?” She asked as she sat down on the floor next to us. We explained what happened with Percy and showed her the pictures that Luke sent me. We all agreed that I was going to avoid him for the next couple of days until I was over it because I knew that every time I looked at him, I would remember the picture and it would just hurt too much. We changed the subject and Piper told us about a date she just had with Jason.

“He told me he likes me!”

“Piper, that’s great!”

“It was so amazing,” She sighed dreamily, probably thinking about Jason.

After a few hours, I didn’t feel sick anymore and we just watched TV for a while until Piper and Thalia left. I was lying down on the couch when I got another text message and I hoped it wasn’t another picture of Percy with Calypso. When I opened it, I saw it was from the jerk himself.

‘Hey Wise Girl, how are you feeling?’

I didn’t even bother to answer him as I wandered around in my thoughts.

How could he?

No, wait. How could I? How could I think that we actually had something, that all those little moments we spent together actually meant something? How could I think that the Percy Jackson, the school’s hottest guy, would want to date me? I was stupid and I had to start opening my eyes for the better, no more playing around.

I stood up from the couch and got myself some ice cream because big girls don’t cry. Instead, they eat ice cream.
