The next day, I acted like nothing happened. Because nothing did, according to Miles. He asked if I talked to her yet and there was so much excitement in his voice. It made me wanna barf. I can't believe he liked Jasmine.
Jasmine.
I was thinking in class when I was startled by the bell. Miles skipped up to me, in a rather happy mood.
"Hey, did you talk to Jas? She's been acting kind of funny lately." he said, a trace of concern in his voice.
Jasmine glared at him from the doorway while she waited for her friend, Jade.
"Uh...yea. She said she wasn't interested and that she...she wouldn't go out with you if you two were the last people on Earth." I lied.
His face contorted in hurt, but he recovered and said
"Oh" he cleared his throat, the happiness in his voice gone.
"Well, see you tomorrow" he added.
"Bye"
"Bye" his frown still present, he picked up his books and walked out.
It made me feel 10x better now that Miles and Jasmine weren't getting together anytime soon.
I felt guilty, but I smiled at the thought of me actually becoming a somebody.

I came home to the smell of carrots.
"Mom,I'm home!" I yelled to my mom,Cornelia.
"What are you making?" I added, sniffing the air.
My mom came downstairs from her room and opened the microwave to reveal a bag of frozen carrots. She smiled like she just won an award.
"What the heck,mom?!"
She frowned and cocked her head to one side in confusion.
"This is how I always make them though" she said.
My mouth hung open, realizing that's how she's been making them all along.
Her confused frown turned into a smile when she finally said "I'm just messin' with ya". She laughed as I rolled my eyes at her strange joke.
Wow, my mom is weird. But she's always been a little weird ever since she filed a divorce against my dad, Marshall. My dad is really nice and he's tried so hard to keep me happy during the divorce. And even though most kids would be mad, I'm actually so happy for him now that he has a girlfriend named Margaret. She's really funny, nice and pretty and she has a daughter named Miranda. She's my age and she's really awesome too.
Anyway, I just shook my head and went up to my room. My phone buzzed and I saw it was from Miles. I gasped when I saw it.
Miles:Why did you lie?
How'd he find out? The only person I told was...
Laura.
