The Last Plan

"Wow, Az. I'm just- I.." Lexy stumbled over her words as her eyes locked on green. He was red in the face, biting his lower lip as he awaited the answer. Instead of stopping the fumbling girl, he sang a few nostalgic words. Lexy found her words.

"I'll be your prince if you'll be my princess
it's a love story baby just say...?"

"YES!"

Matching gold rings. Then the warmest, safest, most heart melting hug Lexy has ever taken part in.

-"All you gotta do, is just believe
you can be who you wanna be.
Sincerely,
Me"-

The serenity of the afternoon atmosphere washed over Lexy, who welcomed it with a satisfied tilt of her head. She grinned, eyes closed as she allowed the wind to pass her by. To drown her in its blazing colours as her mind wandered into distant galaxies too far for any other mind to follow. The clouds were cotton candy- a light tint of blue against the natural faded tangerine hue. Lexy slid her eyes to the tree she sat under, an open book in hand. It was called 'The Paper Forest'. She had smiled at the ending, glad the characters were happy.

Then she heard the unmistakable bells of a wedding and closed her eyes, a fond memory playing in her head on repeat.

----

Green and yellow intertwined, braiding life into the gorgeous scene that blossomed and bloomed, like a garden of lush golden flowers. White chairs and tables fitting the elaborate design of the room. But the room wasn't empty. There was the bride and groom, dressed to the damn nines, there were friends and family and caterers..

Their closest friends sat right in front, to the right next to each other, chatting animatedly.

The band played softer, and their vows began.

"with this hand, i will lift your sorrows"
"your cup will never be empty for i will be your wine"
"with this candle, i will light your way in darkness"
"with this ring, i ask you to be mine."

Then the groom kissed his bride for the (not-so) first time.

----

The group in front of the two newly-weds got up and sauntered toward the small stage. Full of nostalgia, they sang an old song, one forgotten by their minds but not by their heart. One about a school and another about a certain feeling. Then the songs just diverged into alternative, rock and whatever it was that they had done.

Then a closing speech by a family member.

----

Green eyes, lightly-tanned skin and a beautiful pair of brown-blue eyes. This wasn't Az. Or lexy, for that matter.

A child. (noo)

The two newly-weds sat at their swing set in their backyard. Under their tree and vines as they watched the reddish leaves gently floated down, dappling the ground in crunchy leaves.

Lexy saw gold lights flash beneath her eyelids. She recalled the feeling of such joy that the world fell away from them, disappeared beneath their fingertips and their sloppy movements in the small space of the living room.

Then she saw the lights go out. She recalled a horror movie, the scent of pasta and...comic sans.

----

"L...L...Lo..."

"Oh sweet maple syrup and all that is good and gay her first word! What's it gonna be? Lexy? Lyrics? Lady? Lunch?"

"Love!"
"Lovelovelovelovelovelovelovelovelove!"

Then first steps. First birthday. First school year. Then a second, a third...

----

i'm leaving the world behind
and all my dreams, all of my dreams are shattered now
oh, i'm over the moon tonight
and all my dreams all of my dreams-

Az twirled the small child around and caught his wife in his arms. Blushing, he lay a shy kiss on her cheek before moving her into a dip. Then he let her go and shuffled over to the child to attempt a weird version of the tango. Lexy guffaws, eyes twinkling with mirth. The stars pulsed to a rhythm usually left unheard.

Eventually, the trio all lay on a picnic blanket in their backyard. The grass shimmered and quivered in the chilly moonlight. The huge moon was like a milk-dunked cookie, though much larger and much, much more amazing.

-and so, with chocolate smudged hands and the alluring scent of pie, the three slept soundly in the comfort of each others arms and the quiet buzz of the world around them.
