-----------------------------Prologue----------------------------
Jeremy Brake was going to regret the day he came to West Ridge High, I thought, staring at him above the throng of human teenage girls lusting after him. To them it's like, 'Hey I wanna die, I think I'll go to West Ridge High,' what a bunch of idiots, blood-filled idiots that is. You see West Ridge High was full of a swarm of vampires. Most of the humans that step here are either suicidal or just plain stupid. They can't go up against us, we are too strong, it's our blood lust that gives us our strength even in our weakened state, and the scent of blood will create frenzy among us where no one is safe, least of all humans.
My name is Amelia Redheart and yes you guessed it, I am a vampire, have been for the last quarter of a century, but to any normal human being, I don't look a day over 17. The only way the others and I have been able to inhabit the school is because the principal, Don McHarry had made a deal with us, as long as we threaten students into getting higher grades, we'll be able to stay and feed of the not so academic students, provided we didn't kill them of course.
Life at West Ridge High was a fair cruise; I even had the honour of being turned by the head vampire at the time. His name was Ramien Rye. All the girls wanted him back then in 1968, but he chose me because I was the only one not interested in being a vampire, therefore I would be able to focus on the more important things. I killed him once I was changed of course, like I said, I wasn't interested in being a vampire. Being turned into a vampire for people like me is as bad as some evil criminal raping some innocent person. You just don't do it, but sometimes, even vampires can't resist temptation so I gave him the best punishment I could think of...his head on a stick.
Sometimes I admire the way his mouth hangs open in that surprised shocked expression that after all these years, remains almost unchanged. Ramien's head hangs around gym class as the student vampires use them to get the humans into shape. What's the point of sucking out unhealthy blood when it's full of disease? Personally, I don't prefer the taste of diabetes; it's so sweet it gives me a toothache. Of course Don McHarry doesn't mind as we are also lowering the burden of disease providing a better economy for all.
Just for fun, Ramien's head comes out every Halloween with trick or treaters often claiming how real looking the head is. I just laugh it off around the nervous humans who do know the truth. In fact, it was since that time that I have been running the school council as head girl, no one but Don McHarry dares to step up to me, no one except Clara Sharp, who unfortunately is both a vampire and co-head girl.
It's too bad, because I could have used another head on a stick.
