I couldn't help but stare upon the glowing street lights reflecting in the rain puddles. I walked over the neon rainbows sliding across the sleek glass-like ground. I blink away the speckling mist-like rain on my face as I step closer to the fluorescent lit grocery store.
I make it through the sliding doors and continue to listen to my music as I pick up my small amount of food supplies, Don't need much when you live on your own. I collect my things relatively quickly and round the corner to face the dairy isle. I see a couple looking through one of the many fridges, I sigh and move past them. Moving forward, I smack perfectly aligned into the corner of a fridge, Wow, I didn't realize how close I was to the next isle that I ran into it. I laugh quietly and try and brush it off as I head to the front of the store.I need to leave now before I embarrass myself more...
Walking to the rhythm of my music through the store I see someone move passed me in the corner of my line of sight and hear giggling, Must be some stupid teenagers just messing around. I get to the registers and notice there are no lines, I shove all of my groceries on the belt and give a shy smile to who looks to be a sixteen year old boy, he seems to be barely dragging through his late night shift. I finish checking out and grab my bags and car keys.
I step out of the sliding doors and abruptly get pushed by a gust of wind, I hear the laughing again, the wind almost making it sound like it's cutting in and out. It was much louder and longer this time, but I knew it had to be my head messing with me. No one was around and I didn't have my headphones in anymore. Shrugging, I continue to step closer to my car parked between the store and my job. I unlock the car and put all of my bags in and close the back door. I turn around to head to the front when my back is pushed up against my car. That damn wind again. A bad storm is bound to hit with the wind picking up like this, it's sprinkling rain now. I get in the car and head towards home. I listen to music whilst I drive and bring my groceries in one trip. I lock the door behind me and turn the kitchen lights on to start putting the groceries away. The lights flicker on and off once in my empty living room, "Don't tell me the power is going out..." I say to the empty apartment. The lights flicker on and off in the room again but at a constant rate now, it's so fast they remind me of strobe lights.
*CRASH* Startled, I drop soup cans I just once held, they roll away from my spread apart feet. I slump down to hide behind my kitchen island watching as the lights start to spark. Laughter echoes in my ears, the digital giggles erupt at different volumes and pitches. The sound separates my attention from the flashing glow in the other room to look around and try and find the erratic noise. I cover my ears hoping this is a nightmare and that the cackles and lights stop going bezerk. I look over at the digital clock on the counter next to me as it flashes violent neon green. However I notice instead of the time the device flashes between the words "you're" and "mine". I push myself the opposite direction of where the clock sits, my back hitting the kitchen cabinets, my head following through with the force and colliding with the door knob on the small cabinet door. My hearing is filled with sharp ringing, my head pulsing with pain where I was impacted hits harder and harder the longer I sit and hold it. I look up and reach toward the edge of the island counter where my phone is, the more I try and reach closer the more kaleidoscope vision I get, more of my hand and counters I see. I blink multiple times.
My knees buckle underneath me, I fall forward, the cold tiles against my warm and tear stained cheeks. Breathing slowed more and more at peace, yet a face that shows bruises, an abrupt sleep consumes me in black vision.
