Freedom is a feeling, we as living beings, take for granted. Never once realizing what life would be like, locked in a cage like an animal that performs in a circus.

Mages, humanlike beings that have roamed the Earth along side humans for hundreds of thousands of years. Their physical appearance is identical to that of the average human, making it quite the struggle to tell the difference.
But there is one very distinct difference, one of which a human cannot replicate nor even begin to comprehend. Mages possess what we know as magic. Similar to the kind children fantasize wielding as they played. As time progressed on through history, humans became more and more intrigued by the mages and their unique abilities.
At first, they were fearful, unsure if the mages would bring harm upon them. Accusing them of being witches and demons, they often massacred anyone they believed to be a mage. Their fear slowly became fascination as they began to document the many mages, humans stumbled upon. The documentation was innocent enough, they conducted interviews of sorts with the Mages and observed them from afar. Eventually, their interest in the mages leads to something far more sinful.
Scientist hit a dead end with their research, realizing that observing from afar was leading them nowhere. They wanted to conduct proper experiments. Leading us to the present day. The research involved cutting open live specimens and ripping out their organs to observe. Even after the thousands upon thousands of murdered mages, scientists had yet to discover how one wielded such power.
Despite the lack of knowledge received, scientists made millions upon millions of dollars, after releasing a book series, documenting the different magic abilities each individual mage possessed. The book series was an international sensation, leading many far more sinister people to want a taste of the cash.
These people were apart of an organization known as "Night Hawk", an underground organization seeking to market the "lives" of mages through an online entertainment series, known as "Keeping Up With The Mages". A show broadcasted only in the deepest crevices of the internet. Hidden far from law enforcement, only their to entertain sick twisted minds. Night Hawk not only creates entertainment for the most insane of people, they also conduct a large number of experiments themselves!
The research they conduct is based on the victim's mentality The sadistic pleasures the heads of Night Hawk receive as they watch each captive slowly be driven to madness is unfathomable. Of course, they love to witness the amazing powers the Mage possesses, but these people see it as an opportunity to put a living being through several stages of mental torture.
Although the organization is technically illegal, if they were to be caught by the government, the punishment they would receive would be minimum, since Mages are rarely ever seen as equals to humans.
With the threat of Night Hawk, mages now attempt to blend in with the rest of society. The way a Mage is found is by being seen using their magical abilities and if a mage is found, there is no escape. Once Night Hawk finds you, all a mage can do is give in, eventually, they will realize there is no point in struggling. There is no point in fighting.
Their lives now belong to Night Hawk.
-Present time-
"Number 178, demonstrate abilities as soon as you hear the beep."
*beep*
Number 178 remained still. She glared upwards towards the men who stood behind a protective glass on the second floor. There they sat in cushioned chairs, a notepad laid in each individual lap and a pencil in hand. She was unable to make out the man behind the speaker. All she could see was his figure, positioned behind a microphone.
