I had just climbed the mango tree to block some fruits as I whistled merrily. Suddenly I noticed a big black snake which had coiled itself on one of the tree branches. The sight of the snake sent chills down my spine. It started thrusting towards me exposing its tongue and fangs-a spectrum of colours squrting from its venom.
I was startled and my eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. The hair at the back of my head bristled and my blood froze to zero degrees centigrade. I became as still as water in a pot. Still clutching on the tree, everything went blank and on the spur of the moment, I found myself on the sun-baked ground. My head was spinning and my mind boggled up by the panorama of events.
By the time I came around the snake which was as black as coal had coiled around me. My heart was a tattoo. It almost skipped a beat. I was baffled. I could not move a muscle. Certainly, I realised that whoever has never sat on the palatable spikes of the pineapple plant is the lucky one. I started saying my last prayer as beads of sweat formed and rolled down my face.
I imagine myself being devoured by a snake. That is the time I realised that regrets come after. I regretted why I had gone to steal mangoes yet it was my uncles farm and there was no way he would not let me eat the mangoes to my satisfaction. I decided to give something a try. I let out a stentorian scream that cut through the air like a hot knife through butter, breaking the eerie silence that had loomed the area. The snake on realising my ribs move because of the scream made no effort of making a move but lay still on me. Its ice-cold skin made me feel more insecure and I nearly jumped out of my skin. My feelings were unbearable. I yelled again this time louder than before.
Out of the blues came a group of people. They all milled at the right time cracking their heads for a solution to spare my life. Suddenly, the snake crawled away. I could not believe my eyes. The snake just went away leaving me laying on the ground in a dilemma.
My body and clothes were drenched in sweat like a racing horse. Indeed it was a day worth recalling. To date the incident is still a mystery.
