Chapter 6 Training

Lucas estate in Wilbur was all that I ever dreamed it would be.

The house was a Mediterranean mansion smack in the center of park-like grounds.
The guest house in back was a smaller version of the great house.

The pool was Olympian in size and kidney shaped and the grounds featured a tennis court, basket ball court and a horseback riding range.

He explained that his horses were at the other estate in Tennessee.

Sheesh! How rich *was*he and ...umm...where were his parents?

The only grownups in attendance other than Dave of course were a small army of servants.

"Would you like a snack?

Lucas asked me when I arrived at his house the next day.
He came to the door dressed in a pink Polo shirt and white slacks and white canvas deck shoes.

I simply feasted my eyes on him in breathless awe a couple of seconds before answering his question.

"Nah...
I'm good.Wuss bought burgers before dropping me off".

Nodding he peered down at the big, yellow beach bag that I was carrying.

"Oh. This is how I'm carrying Estine".

At the sound of her name she streaked out of the bag and landed on the floor with an annoyed huff.

"Next time I walk".
She hissed at me.

After giving us a tour of the house Lucas showed us a room upstairs.
It had two old fashioned school desks and several bookshelves.

"This is where you can train her".

He explained.

Okay....so training turned out being Estine having me repeat a few spells over and over with my eyes closed.

"Concentrate".

She instructed severely.

"Yeah but nothing is happening".

I said opening one eye to peek at her.

"Am I doing it wrong?"

"Keep trying until you feel something strange".

She encouraged.

There I was muttering gibberish with my eyes shut so tightly that I was giving myself a headache.

Eventually my mind began to wander and I was daydreaming about kissing Lucas on a tropical beach somewhere....

"Careful".

Estine warned and my eyes snapped open and my cheeks warmed.
I'd forgotten that she could read my mind.

Gulp...and so could Lucas!!!

He was studiously avoiding looking in my direction. Though his cheeks were also flushed.

Dang it! Get a GRIP Stevens!
Screwing my eyes closed once again I firmly marshalled my thoughts on the summoning spell.

Nothing happened.
I was beginning to get frustrated. Then Lucas said;

"I don't think that Coco's abilities run in that direction.
What I mean is that she might not be a natural spell caster."

Well obviously he had a point. Opening my eyes I looked at him curiously.

His smooth tanned forehead was creased in thought.
Estine was also considering what he'd said.
