20. We'll never be alone

Happy is totally freaking out. He keeps on bothering people about their security badges and stuff. And now he is freaking out over this dude Pepper is meeting with. I'm kind off laughing at him when I look over at the room Pepper is in, to see they're standing in a giant brain. It weird and unbelievably creepy.

"Happy... Happy Happy Happy! Look!"

He looks over to where I'm pointing at pepper and her dude. He makes a face, but at that moment his tablet starts ringing. He look at it, a little lost. So I hop over to sit next to him and look at the screen. Happy looks at me and let's out an exaggerated sigh, before turning the tablet to be so I can make it go right for him to use. He doesn't get it because he's to old according to dad. When I look at the screen I see dad is trying to call him. I quickly press the button and motion for Happy to hold it a bit higher. He holds it way to high, of course, so dad now can only see his forehead.

"Hello?"

"Is this forehead of security?"

"What?"

I lean over a little to see dad. He's down in the lab, I think he's working on the mark 42.

"Hey dad! How are you? Better?"

"I'm alright squirt. Don't worry."

Happy sighs a little annoyed before saying,

"You know, look... I got a real job. What do you want? I'm working. I've got something going on, here."

"What, harassing interns?"

"Harassing?" I mumble under my breath. "What's that?" 

"Nothing Nova. Let me tell you something." Happy continues. "Do you know what happened when I told people I was iron man's bodyguard? They would laugh in my face."

I hear dad laugh a little while he walks around in the workshop. The suit standing in the background.

"I had to leave while I still had a shred of dignity. Now I got a real job. I'm watching Pepper an your daughter."

"I don't need to be watched" I mumble under my breath. Dad absentmindedly answers Happy.

"What's going on? Fill me in."

"For real?"

"Yeah"

He goes on talking about this dude Pepper is with like he's dad's worried mom or something. Kinda like pepper does.

I don't really think dad's actually interested. But he's listening, that's something. He doesn't often do that with Happy, but now it's concerning Pepper. He cares about her. I really think they'll get married one day. Dad shrugged it off though, when I asked a little while back.

Now Happy is talking about going after the shifty guy or something. I don't know what he means with that. I mean, look at what this guy has. It's a giant brain, what's he gonna do?! Pepper can beat his brain on her own.

Dad and Happy talk for a little longer, while I look at the brain thingy he has. It's weird. They're standing in it. I really thought I had about everything but the world keeps surprising me. But the world is big I guess so it's only normal for there to be a lot of surprises.

I like the world outside of Karl Fiers's place. It's pretty.

"Come on, Nova, we're leaving."

Happy takes me outside, where we wait for Pepper, who had to go back inside to get her things. Happy takes a picture of the shifty guys car, making me roll my eyes. He takes his job very serious. Very.
