[Christian Owen POV ]
"Shh, she is sleeping." I walked around the baby girl who is lying down on a coat of soft leaves and bended twigs. A gentle chilled breeze rustled the crinkling leaves surrounding the sleeping baby. The trees became lively groaning along with the music of the leaves.
The trees are excited to finally see the baby girl. The rightful heir of the Kind Ones, seen for the first time since the death of her parents, the one that escaped. The one who will change everything.
I knelt down beside her and softly ran my fingers on the girl's cheek.
This is for her own good. I have to protect her.
But since the baby's parents died trying to save her and me, I know she isn't safe here in the forest anymore. I must keep her safe from the Haunted Ones who want to kill her. The trees know that the girl is a strong tree magic user and that she is destined to destroy the Haunted Ones. At the same time we have to keep the trees from talking about anything dealing with the Kind Ones or her parents. They swore to me.... they swore to me that she will one day restore the kingdom.
"Christian we need to take her to her new home." a voiced whispered in the wind behind me. I turned around slowly to see my Uncle Jim coming up from the ground with a root in his right hand.
"Just a little bit longer Uncle Jim." I whispered as I turned back towards the baby girl lying there. I heard Uncle Jim stepped off the root and onto the ground.
"Christian, I know you don't want to leave her again but you must for her safety." I felt a hand on my shoulder. I know I must let her go today, but hopefully I would be able to see her again someday. I bent down and pick up the beautiful baby girl and lay her in my arms.
I turn around and standing behind me were about half of the Kind Ones who came out of hiding to watch the sad scene. I gave a nod towards Uncle Jim and started to walk slowly down the row that everyone left. Each person reach out a hand and touched her head and gave her a silent blessing. I saw that one of the Kind Ones was weeping uncontrollably. I came up to her and noticed scared eyes and her hopeless stance.
"Madam, she isn't going to leave us forever. We will see her again soon." The woman's eye lite up with hope and she gave me a hug.
"I know you love her Christian and I know she will love you" she whispered. She stepped back from the hug and gave me a small smile. That just shock me, how does this woman think I love this baby?
Then time started again and I walked towards the edge of the forest and breath in and out. I closed my eyes and imagine the family we choose for her to live with in my mind. Then I felt the cool soil starting up my legs and soon over my head. The tree roots wrapped around me and it guided me to the new home of the baby girl.
Now before I come up onto the street I felt the vibrations though the root so I make sure no one is nearby. I felt nothing so I concentrate my energy into the roots and slowly pulled myself and the baby girl up onto the ground. I opened my eyes and looked at the house. They are expecting me but I didn't tell them when or what time. Well if they are ready or not I'm coming in. I started to walk to the door. I was nervous yet I have to trust these people. I rang the door bell and waited. It wasn't long until a woman came to open the door.
"It's time Mrs. Noel." I looked into her eyes and I can tell she was happy yet surprise.
"Oh my, is she okay?" I think she wasn't expecting to see the baby girl at all.
"She is fine but she isn't safe with us anymore. I need you look after her. Do you remember your promise to watch her when the time is needed?"
"Yes I remember but that was before I had any children. I don't think I can take care of her." Anger started to fill my soul. Unbelievably how can she say that? She promise us a couple of years ago that she would take care of the child.
"You promise and you have a deal with us, now if you don't keep it then you have to deal with the consequences." And with that she held her arms out for the baby girl. I gently kissed the baby's head and passed on the baby to the woman. The woman looked down on her with a hint of displeasure.
"What is her name?" I looked up into her eyes and said
"Her name is Amber Meadows Noel." She was startle when I said her last name. "Remember you are not allowed to tell her anything about the Kind Ones or me."
"I understand" she whispered. I looked behind her and saw the husband. He looked overjoyed with the new addition to the family. He came up beside his wife and looked at the baby. I heard he whisper "Amber Meadows Noel" then he smile.
"I trust you Mr. and Mrs. Noel for her protection. I am going to watch over her when she grows up, but she is safer with humans then she is with me. Do remember the Haunted Ones are looking for her." I gave them a pity smile and turn myself around towards the grass that I came up from.
"Wait!" I turn around to see the husband behind me. "We will take care of her. You are welcome here whenever you want to come to visit her." His face was bright and happy. I gave him a nod.
"Thank you." And with that I went on the grass I saw them watching me then I close my eyes and into the ground I went.
