Dear Cambell
I remember my freshman year when I first laid eyes on you. You were completely out of my reach so instead of speaking to you, I gave you a nickname and watched you from a far. My friends and I would giggle as you passed but we were the last people you'd ever pay attention to. I knew talking to you would be a crazy idea and probably be very awkward, but regardless I made my move. The only words I could come up with once I caught your attention were "I like your backpack". The second the sentence left my mouth I felt like an idiot, I like to believe that you noticed. Your response to my awkward compliment was "Do you want it?" and the whole interaction ended in laughter. Your response made me feel less awkward which in turn made me like you more. Eventually our little interaction became our thing. Every time i'd see you in the hallway i'd compliment something you were wearing and you'd ask me if I wanted it. I was perfectly fine with these little interactions, and then one time in the cafeteria you asked me for my name. I told you mine and you told me yours, I pretended like I didn't already know it. What was crazy to me was that the next time you saw me you remembered my name. Now that I am a senior I completely realize that you were just being nice and you were fully aware of the little crush I had on you. I probably looked like a fan girl to you but that is okay. Even though it's apparent we'll never be anything more than hallway buddies I wanted to say thank you. In a world where people can be cruel and upperclassmen take advantage of underclassmen you treated me so kindly. Any other kid would have ignored my compliment and went on with their lives. You treated me with so much kindness and i'm proud to call you a friend.
