Dear Diary,

Just so we are both clear, I think this is ridiculous. I mean seriously, writing in a diary? Who does that anymore? And besides, my life is so boring here that there isn't anything to talk about. But then again it's not like I have anyone here to talk to. Well, if I'm going to do this, I might as well back up.

Hi, my name is Lily Ryan. I'm 13. I live here, in boring old Minot, North Dakota, where the summers are cold and winters are colder. NOTHING happens here. Nothing at all. Unless you count my brothers biting two Kindergarten teachers in 6 months. Oh yeah, that's also something I should talk about. My family. I'm the middle child. I have two 6 year old brothers in kindergarten. Their names are James and Chris, but I like to call them the "little train wreaks". You know the saying, "double trouble"? That describes them PERFECTLY. They are a twin disasters. Then there's my older sister, Rachel. She's 15 and thinks she's so special just because she's the oldest. She'd rather be in a makeup store that our little house any day, and I don't blame her. Our house is tiny, with only 4 bedrooms and two bathrooms. My brothers share a room, but thankfully me and Rachel get our own rooms. That doesn't stop the twins from barging in. Our my parents, for that matter. My parents are totally out-dated. They don't understand "this new-fangled technology" or the fact that you need to knock on someone's bedroom door.

And don't even get me started on summer break. My parents think we need to "bond" and "start understanding each other more". According to my parents, that means summer vacations to see Mt. Rushmore and the Grand Canyon and camp on the side of a lake for a week. I've never gotten a regular summer vacation.

But FINALLY that's all going to change! Because this year, this summer of 2014, is going to be THE BEST SUMMER EVER. Because we, the Ryan's family is going to...... THE BEACH!!!!!! We are driving all the way down from the stuffy, boring town of Minot to the glorious, sunny Port Aransas!! Finally! Two whole weeks of beautiful sunshine, warm sand, and splashing in the giant waves of the Gulf of Mexico! That's right, diary. I'm going to spend 14 days of my otherwise boring summer on a beach that no one in my whole entire grade has gone to!!! Eeeeeeeekkkkk! I have been dreaming of the day that I lay on the hot, soft sand, basking in the rays of the gorgeous sun on a beach. Yes, yes, YES!

Well, I gotta go now, Diary. I got school tomorrow (only 2 more days!!) and I gotta share the great news!!!

Bye!
-Lily
