This is Alian. I couldn't find one for her face so I just used the same one from the book cover.
Leven means life. Just so it's not confusing... :)
My feet carried me into the tiny and only bar in our town. The familiar smell of cigars and whisky tumbled into my nose. I figured I would find something to do there until I grew to tired to stand.
As I tried squeezing through the crowd a body was pushed against mine and then another body slammed my other side. I was sandwiched between two smelly men. I shimmied my way out from between them. Before I could take a step one of the men turned and I saw anger plastered on his face.
"Watch yourself girl!" His eyebrows curled up and his lips tightened from anger. He was the local gang leader and everyone knew not to mess with him.
I wanted so badly to through some words at him. Before I could rethink what I was saying my mouth shot, "I'm sorry did I make you uncomfortable?"
His frown sunk deeper as he leaned forward and whispered, "I have about twenty men in here who would kill you in an instant. I would recommend you not being a prick". His face was a few inches from mine, his emerald eyes threatening to stare through my soul.
"And I know you wouldn't do that," I folded my arms trying to create some space between us. "Because if I died, you would too." And I had not lied. My father would have him killed if I was killed. Everyone was scared of my father, they say he is the one who killed my mother. I am pretty positive he didn't kill her but rumors spread fast and stick like honey in this town.
He grunted, "Your not that important." He was right. I wasn't that important to the town but I was all he had left of my mother and I was his most priced possession.
His ridiculous grin was making me angrier by the second. If I didn't end this conversation soon it wouldn't be a conversation any more.
"I'm sorry for being an inconvenience to you, I'll just be on my way." I watched him as he turned around then I fled to the nearest open corner where the light was so dull I could barely see my own hands.
I watched people tumble about the bar. Girls clinging onto men and men holding beers while laughing hysterically at something that probably wasn't even funny.
The longer I watched the crowd the more I felt like vanishing into the shadows. Even though I was already practically invisible because my black clothing blended in with the dark.
After standing there for a while I felt a hand glide onto my shoulder and grip firmly then something pressing against my side and breath on my ear. "Come with me." I knew who it was and I said nothing. Following the figure I glanced back into the bar, someone had seen my interaction. I pulled my hood over my head, which was attached to my long black coat. The figure led me into a small room that was made of stone. "My child," I felt it's hand creep under my chin, his talons threatening to sink into my flesh. I wanted to run but there was nowhere to go.
