My attention was suddenly drawn to the small dark shape sitting in front of me on the table. It was buzzing. Picking up my phone, I just received two text messages from one of this stations Lieutenant. Not to mention, he's my boyfriend. Mark.
Good morning, Shay!
Did you seriously take the day off??? Where are ya?
A smirk formed on my face as I replied with, Nope... Just haven't seen you yet. And since when do I take a day off, Egan??
Sorry, I can't see everyone all at once. btw, I'm in the locker room.
I looked up at the guys(and girl) still sitting at the kitchen table together. They weren't really paying attention, since they were all tangled up in side conversations. I stood up from my chair and grabbed my phone. I slipped it in my pocket and fixed my long blonde hair as I walked down the hallway towards the locker room.
At first glance, the space looked empty of anyone other than me. But, alas... The one and only, Mark Egan peaked out from a row of lockers. His eyes were met with mine. The biggest smile appeared on my face immediately. I wiped the palms of my hands on my thighs as I walked closer to him. His dark eyes looked like they were instantly brightened when he saw me.
"What's up, Shay??" he said in his usual quirky way.
I shrugged with a smirk, "So we're going by last names now?"
He looked around dramatically at the walls and ceiling, "Am I at the fire station or do I have the wrong place?"
I smacked his arm, "Shut up... I know it's a normal occurrence but-"
"We're on a little closer terms than the rest of the guys?" he raised an eyebrow, not being subtle at all, as I resisted the urge to slap him on the arm again.
"And girl..." I corrected him, thinking he forgot Andrea. You cannot forget about Andrea, especially since she is the only other girl here... My savior. He put his hands in the air to defend himself. "Way to be blunt, Egan."
Coming down from the silent laugher that came out of both of us, Mark pulled me into a warm, strong hug.
I sighed, "As always... Be careful today," I murmured into his chest as I took in the sent of him.
"I'm careful every shift, Logan," he spoke gently before cupping my face with his large hands. He looked in my eyes.
"I know, Mark... I'm sorry. I hate being the worried girlfriend but you're the Lieutenant and I can't help myself with you being all superhero like... "
He rolled his eyes and put up his pointer finger, "First of all, Now, you're calling me by my last name."
I pointed at the ceiling, "Fire station, right? Big deal." I smirked, slightly mocking what he said to me earlier.
He pecked my lips and returned the gesture. Mark let go of my face. "Don't forget. I'm always worried about you too, Logan..."
"And don't forget..." I paused, not wanting to get sappy, "You saved me from being reckless. I have something to come back to now."
He put his hand he had out precisely over his heart, on his chest. "Don't make me cry," he faked sniffle and a sob.
"Didn't you take drama club in high school? Because that was horrible.." I asked, stepping back with my hand on my hip.
He furrowed his brow, "No, I was in football. That's a pretty big difference if you ask me, Lady."
"Mhhh," I scoffed back.
