Quick Review of Paltan

Director/Writer/Producer- J.P. Dutta

Cast- Jackie Shroff, Arjun Rampal, Sonu Sood, Harshvardhan Rane, Gurmeet Chaudhry, Siddhant Kapoor, Luv Sinha

I am a big Border(1997) fan and saw the film twice in theater. 21 years back, Kanpur had no multiplexes and there used to be housefull boards outside single screens which were showing the film. It was a blockbuster. I was quite excited when J.P.Dutta announced that after 14 years he will be completing his war trilogy.

Saw Paltan. It was nothing like I had imagined. From no angle it looked like a war film. Stone pelting was going on between Indian & Chinese soldiers at LoC. Harshvardhan Rane & Gurmeet Chaudhary were bare chested & doing sit-ups on snow.
Siddhant Kapoor was the Hindi- Chinese translator.
Jackie Shroff & Arjun Rampal were.mostly competing on whose English accent was better.
Sonu Sood and Luv Sinha had insignificant roles. The heroines were just pretty faces who came for a minute in songs and most of them had no dialogues.
It was such a poorly researched film that never for a moment we felt like we were witnessing something historic.
Except the last 15 minutes there was nothing worth watching in the film.
If you're a J.P.Dutta fan, avoid Paltan.
He should have left his war trilogy incomplete. Waiting for it was better than watching it.

P.S.- It's hard to believe but a Raj- DK film, Stree is about to earn more than the sum total of Anand L Rai’s sequel (Happy PhirrBhag Jayegi), J.P.Dutta’s magnum opus (Paltan),  Imtiaz& Ekta Kapoor's love story (LailaMajnu), Anil Sharma of Gadar fame’s debut film for his son (Genius), Manoj Bajpai starrer (Gali Guleiyan) and a film on social awareness, Halka
Welcome to 2018.
