People left shortly after my grandmother's rant, and they headed to a hall we were renting to hold the luncheon at. I knew everything was set up and ready for everyone to arrive there, but I didn't want to go. I was beyond angry and my face stung where my grandmother slapped me.

"There is going to be booze, Liv. You can drink and eat and then go home and sleep." Elliot spoke, and I shook my head as I paced in front of the building.

"No. I want to strangle her." I huffed.

"You want to strangle your elderly grandma?"

"She said so many bad things about my father! About me! Wouldn't you want to?" I spat, and Elliot sighed as he shoved his hands into his pockets.

"I don't know. I haven't been in this situation before."

"Well, it's the second time I've been slapped by her and she has treated me like shit."

"Second?"

"When we were staying with her before my mother's funeral. The night you, Cy, and I went to stay at a hotel. Your mom came and joined us the next morning."

"Oh." He frowned, and I sighed as I raked my hands through my hair.

"Elliot, am I crazy?" I questioned, as I continued to pace. I swear that my heels will be flats by the time I'm done.

"You are, but that's what I like about you." He smiled, and it was that goofy smile that he used right before he kissed me for the first time.

"It's okay that I'm angry, right?"

"Yeah, it's okay. Just don't say things about strangling your grandmother, alright? That wouldn't be a good thing for people to hear."

"Okay. I won't. I just need something very strong to drink."

"Stick to wine or beer."

"You know that it's very weird that the hall serves booze at my father's luncheon. He died because he had drunk for so long."

"We are celebrating his life right now, and if it helps to get drunk then that's what we are gonna do."

On July first, Elliot and I were going to work as officers for the first time. We were both also keeping our jobs at the bookstore but were only picking up shifts when we could. The couple that ran it understood and were excited that we could still keep working.

"I feel like we wear too much black." I sighed, as I looked at myself in the mirror. I smoothed my hair that I had tied back into a bun before turning and looking at my husband.

"We look good though." He smirked before he walked towards me and kissed me deeply.

"Put on your tie, and then we should head out so we can get breakfast."

"Why?" He whined. I smiled as I handed him his tie.

"It's what we are supposed to wear. Just wear it, El. I'm hungry and we gotta get going."

"And how long do we have to wear these uniforms?" He whined and I grinned.

"While my father was still alive, I talked to him about that. He said that since we both have a degree that the NYPD will allow us to drop one of the four years we have to have for experience and we can take the detective exam earlier."

"Good. I do not like these uniforms. I can't show off my body in them." Elliot sighed, and I laughed before hugging him.

"You are going to do great, El."

Elliot and I ate a quick breakfast before heading to our precincts. I am at my father's old precinct, the 16th which is now run by John Munch. Elliot is at the 17th precinct so we are still close but we aren't working together.

I walked in and talked to the desk officer before being sent to my desk where my partner sat.

"Hey, I'm Olivia Benson," I spoke, as I reached my hand out to him. He didn't even look up as I sank down onto the desk in front of him. I waited for him to speak, but he didn't for a long time.

"Uh, I'm your new partner. Who are you?" I asked, and the man lifted his head and eyed me.

"Your father just died, didn't he? He was a Captain here."

"Yeah. Captain Cragen." I breathed.

"I'm Lewis, Ian Lewis. I'm the senior officer so you better be prepared to listen. You drive the car, but if we are going to chase someone I drive. You get the coffee and you are awake while I sleep. You do not sleep here, you sleep in your own bed. Do not disappear randomly because if you do I will report you. Don't be a hero." He spoke, and as he finished his spew he stood and grabbed the keys from his desk.

"Where are we going, Officer Lewis?" I asked quickly.

"Patrol. Grab your ticket pad." He replied, and I nodded quickly before finding my ticket pad in the pile of items I needed and I ran after him.

For my first shift as an officer for the NYPD, I wrote 50 tickets. Many of them were for just petty things but Ian made me do that. He made me pay for four different things of coffee and then he almost made me pay for his dinner while we were on break but I told him that he's a grown man and can start paying for himself.

I was thankful that at 7 that night I could get into my truck and drive to my apartment where my husband would be meeting me.

"Wine already?" Elliot asked as he walked into our apartment later than I had. He did have a little bit of a longer drive compared to mine.

"Oh yeah. I told my partner off." I sighed, and he laughed. He slipped his shoes off before sitting next to me. He loosened his tie with one hand as I held my glass to his lips so he could take a drink of my wine.

"So, who is your partner?" Elliot asked, and I frowned because I didn't want to think about Ian outside of work.

"He doesn't matter right now," I spoke, as I sat my glass down. Elliot looked at me and smiled.

"Well then come over here and kiss me." He smiled. I moved closer to him and kissed a few times before laying my head against his chest.

"Even if my partner is a dick, I really do like being an officer."

"Me too." Elliot smiled.
