-Account of Haru Kanzaki-

Part IV

"Haru?"

Katsuri called out to me, but, for some reason, it was somewhat distant from me.

It couldn't reach me at all.

I just heard it and never reacted upon it.

"Haru... I'm sorry if I hid this from you."

"Why..? Why did it have to be you?"

"Haru..."

"This... this is the first time.. I've ever felt this way and yet... why?" I said as tears came raining down my eyes.

"Haru.. don't say things like that..."

I just continued sobbing, feeling sorry for myself.

"Haru..."

Katsuri went near me and held me in her arms.

"I'm sorry... Haru..."

Katsuri started crying as well.

I held her in my arms as well saying "I don't want to lose you! Katsuri.. don't leave."

"I'm still here aren't I..? I won't leave you..."

We stayed like this for some time that when I came to my senses and realized it was already late at night.

"Say Haru. I have one favor I'd like to ask..."

"What is it, Katsuri?" I said as I held her hand gently.

"Can I have the portrait you've made for me?"

"Sure. I'll bring it tomorrow after classes."

Katsuri's mom enters the room.

"I bought something to eat. Would you care to join us, Haru?"

"Oh, I have to leave, I might've worried my parents so..."

"I see. Well, some other time then."

"Katsuri-san, I'll be leaving now."

"Yeah. Be careful in going home."

Before I could leave, she grabbed my hand and said "Thank you."

I just smiled back and quietly left the room.

I saw Hisashi sitting at the lobby area, looking a bit distressed.

"So... you knew about it." I said to him out loud.

"Haru, I didn't want you to get hurt."

"I know, you're my bestfriend right?" I said to him teary eyed.

He stood up and said "Shall we get going then?"

"Yeah."

We left the hospital and went for a bit of detour in a park.

"Hisashi... sorry." I said as I looked at the sky.

"What are you talking about? I'm the one who should say that." Hisashi said patting my back.

"You know this is the first time I liked someone like this... right?"

"Yeah..."

"I'm not ready for this, Hisashi. I can't... face her... knowing it might be the last time... I look at her smile."

Tears flowed down my eyes once more.

"Hey, don't give up now! She's still there right?! I know you're better than this Haru!"
