"Will you be my girlfriend?" Jesse repeated himself. As much as I was dying to say yes, I just couldn't.

"Umm," I stuttered.

"I mean just think about it Adams. You and me have been stuck to each other forever. It would make a believable couple around school and our parents would fall for it."

"What do you mean fall for it?" I asked. I knew there had to be a catch. It was too good to be real.

"I mean, I need someone to be my girlfriend so I can soften up my image,"

"Meaning?" I questioned him.

"Everyone thinks I'm kind of-"

"A jerk?" I filled in the blank.

"Yeah that. And everyone at school thinks I am a player."

"Yeah so?"

"If I have someone like you to pretend to be my girlfriend people will see I'm the committed type and I will be more likeable. And my parents love you so I would get away with so much crap," I could not believe this. Jesse was using me. He was trying to use me so that he could get more girls and more freedom from his parents! He wasa jerk. I couldn't believe him right now. It literally took every part of me just to resist from slapping him in the face.

"Jesse. You just wanna use me. And I am not stupid enough to fall for that," I answered him. My voice was flat. But Jesse just didn't give up.

"No I'm not. I will literally do anything your little heart desires until the quote on quote breakup. People will like me better and more guys will flock to you knowing that you were with me,"

"Wow Jesse. That is so pathetic " I mumbled. "Oh and what happened to Savannah? She was literally just with you like 20 minutes ago."

"Savannah actually turned me down. She said she didn't want to get hurt by a jerk. So I wanna prove her wrong," Jesse slurped up the last of his strawberry smoothie. I thought long and hard about my decision. If I said yes, I was giving in to being used by Jesse. But I also would get a glimpse of what it would be like to be with Jesse. And I would also have him around to do whatever I wanted. But if I said no, everything would stay the same with the exception of having Jesse bother me until I said yes. Obviously the pros outnumbered the con's.

"Yeah, I guess I'll do it," I sighed. Jesse's eyes widened and sparkled underneath the LED bulbs hanging above our table.

"Oh my gosh Adams I totally love you right now," He said through a mouthful of glazed munchkins. Before I knew it he was getting up and picking me up and swinging me around.

"Jesse!!" I screeched. "Put me down!"

"Aww you're no fun," he pouted. I grabbed him by his shirt and leaned in close to his face. I could smell his sugary breath inches away from my nose.

"Just because I am you fake girlfriend doesn't mean that you are going to be getting away with your usual crap. Got it?"

"Yeah yeah whatever Adams," he said back at me. We cleaned up our area at our table and walked back to Jesse's truck. I sat in the passengers seat this time. Jesse asked me to plug up his phone into the mp3 dock. I did and one of his songs started playing instantly.

We pulled up to my house to see my two little brothers in the front yard. 15 year old Benjamin was playing basketball with 11 year old Kenji. Jesse jumped out the car to open my door. He handed me my bag from the back seat and headed over to my brothers. Kenji and Ben adored Jesse. They tackled him as soon as he came into view.

I have to admit it was a bit cute to see Jesse playing with the boys. For some reason I could Invision him as a good father some day.

My mom was in the kitchen whipping up some dinner while reading one of her cookbooks. She was looking over her glasses as she added salt and pepper to the pot on the stove.

"Hey mom," I said dropping my bag at the counter and taking a seat at one of the bar stools.

"Hey Lena," my mom said without looking up."How was your day today honey?"

"Interesting." I answered. This was no doubt about it one of the most interesting days I have had in a long time.

"Interesting in a good way or bad way?" she asked.

"A little bit of both," I answered truthfully. I mean, it wasn't every day that someone who I kind of had feelings for just asked me out, right out of the blue. Actually hardly any guys ever asked me out at all. Besides the persistant guys from the science club and the debate team. One thing that I knew I would have to keep reminding myself was that Jesse actually didn't like me. He was just trying to get other girls to like hin and get his parents to leave him alone. So I was kind of a pawn in his game of life. But I actually got to control him in a way. He was supposed to do anything that I wanted. But what did I want Jesse to do?

"Hey Mrs. Adams," Jesse said heading into the kitchen.

"Jesse, what a pleasant suprise!" my mom beamed. Even though she knew Jesse was a trouble maker and always has been , she kind of thought of him being as a family member. She was always happy when he came around.

"How was your day?" he asked. Obviously he was kissing her butt to butter her up. He had something planned. I just wasn't sure what it was.

"Mine was great. How was yours?" she askesd. I had decided to tune them out and play some Bubble Craft on my phone.

"It was really good."

"Would you like to stay for dinner?" Mom offered.

"No that's okay. My mom is probably expecting me back home. I was just dropping Lena off and coming in to say hello,"

"Well that was sweet of you. Thanks for stopping by. And tell your mom to call me,"

"Will do," Jesse grinned. And with that he leaned over and kissed my cheek. "I'll text you, alright?" he said to me before heading out the front door.

"Kay," was all that I was able to say. I was in definite shock that, that just happened. Especially in front of my mother. Jesse was sure full of suprises today. I'm not saying that was a bad suprise. In fact if I could go back to that moment, I probably would. His lips were so soft against my cheek. It was like a cloud.

As soon as Jesse was out the door my mother put a lid on the pot on the stove.

"Hmm, what was that all about?" she asked. Her brown eyes were wide opened in shock.

"Nothing," I said. Crap. I was blushing. Now either my mom was going to pester me about this or call my big sister to do some snooping. My big sister, Amanda, was in her twenties with a family of her own. She didn't live too far from us and she loved to pop up unnanounced and get in my business.

"Hmm okay," Mom said. She wasn't believing me. "Lena, just start your homework and get the boys inside and busy too. Call me when the timer goes off. I have to make a phone call. Wonderful. Now the whole world was about to find out that Lena Adams was now Jesse's new girl.
