Sadie stared at Mason. She bowed her head. "Mason, I need to talk to you."

Mason shook his head. "No, you don't."  He gripped the bat behind his back with both hands, jamming it into his spine.

Sadie furrowed her brows then looked at the metal object that dangled behind Masons legs. "What's that?"

"What?" Mason lifted it, staring at it as if it was the key to ending all of his problems.  "This?" He swung it aggressively, causing Sadie to flinch. "It's just a prop.

Sadie lifted her brows. "For Romeo and Juliet?"

"Charlotte and I were just messing around- You know what? That's none of your business. Why are you even here?"

"I...," Sadie head began to feel light. "Mr... Brody brought me here."

"Really? Good for you. Finally got what you've wanted, right?"

"No," Sadie shook her head, rubbing her temple. "It's quite the opposite," she giggled waving her hand. "I don't want him."

Mason chuckled. "Really? What? Did you finally realize that that idea is insane? That you being with a teacher is sick and disgusting?"

Sadie giggled and nodded. "Kinda. I just don't understand. If I wasn't supposed to be with him...," she frowned beginning to ramble,"then why did I fall for him-"

"Because you're sick!"

Charlie sighed. "Mason-"

"No!" Mason pointed the bat at Sadie. "Sadie, you're sick and you've had every chance to get better or to apologize but you never did-"

"I'm sorry," Sadie shouted, feeling her thoughts begin to jumble. "I'm sorry for everything."

Mason shook his head. "No. It's too late now."

"It's never too late to forgive someone."

"You're," he stepped closer to them, "not someone. You're a monster. You think we don't know about your plan for tomorrow night?"

"Mason!" Charlie shouted.

Mason stopped approaching them.

"My plan?" Sadie furrowed her brows.

"From the moment we started dating everything has been about Poppy. Our whole relationship was built on her; getting her jealous; getting her to notice you; getting her to hate you. There were moments when I thought, maybe we actually had something. I even loved you."

Sadie looked down. The tiles began to spin.

"But you couldn't put her behind you. For years all you did was focus on hurting her. And this year came along and things got good for you. You got smart and you got people to puppeteer. And you didn't need me anymore and I just...," he frowned then became angrier. "The whole school became your pawns against her. And what I will never understand is how far you would go. Killing her tomorrow night, Sadie? Murdering an innocent person?"

Sadie shook her head. "No. You don't understand. I'm not doing that anymore. Poppy and I are friends."

Mason snorted. "Sure you are. I would remember seeing you two holding hands and braiding each other's hair-"

"Let me show you," Sadie stuffed the gummy bears into her back pocket then began to search her phone but her vision was too blurry. "I have texts from Poppy right here-"

"I don't want to see them. I don't care."

Sadie looked at Mason. There were two of him. She turned in Charlie's direction. "Did you...did you give me something?"

"Weed?" Charlie smiled. "Yeah. But that's it."

"No, you put something in my gummy bears."

Sadie began to stumble away from them. "You laced me." She backed into someone. She looked up at them. "What the-What's going on? Why are you here?"
