The golden sand stretched along the horizon as far as the eye could see. A drought blew by me, taking my spirit with it. Strands of hair crossed my face; the smell of the salty sea tingled my nose as I breathed in a breath of fresh air. The sand was a mine field of corals, with a collection of different multi-colored sea shells. The waves were singing me a dulcet lullaby, making me reminisce my childhood and drawing me closer into them. The sounds of the beach complemented the beautiful imagery, creating a sense of inner peace and harmony.
Birds chirruped and chirped as they roamed around the sky, trying to claim it for themselves. Fluffy clumps of clouds that were covering the sky before slowly fainted into thin air. I held my left palm to my forehead, playing with the golden rays of the sun as it seeped through the cracks between my fingers. The evening sky was a kaleidoscope of orange, violet and sapphire blue. The arresting beauty of this landscape was beguiling.
I silently observed as the new arrivals laid down their towels on the glistening sand. Excited children were running as quickly as they could towards the blue tinged sea whilst parents walked slowly behind, like elephants, laden with hampers, towels, blankets and bags.
Shops and cafes lined the beach. The scent of coffee wafted through the air, followed by the greasy touch of smoking bacon, making me queasy in the summer heat. Seagulls circled the beach like vultures, occasionally pouncing on empty crisp packets or fallen ice-cream, only to be scared away by intrigued children.
Lounging on their luxurious houseboats, the wealthy residents of the marina gazed out to the sea, watching the gentle waves move against the weathered rocky outcrops. Lone swimmers weaved along the distant horizon, gliding head first into the waves, and then moments later surfacing for air. Further out, dazzling white yachts were safely anchored to the sea bed and bobbed gently on the waves.
As the Sun dropped behind the highest ridge of the mountains, I watched as night crept over, taking with it the warmth and light of the day. The beach began to empty, leaving me alone with my thoughts. Stars began to shimmer, like little diamonds hidden within igneous rocks. The breeze ruffled my hair; I closed my eyes and reflected on the beauty of nature.
