I float in the blissful darkness briefly and then I am back on the outside looking at my body as my head lifts up, and I realize someone is borrowing my body yet again. I am unsure of why this keeps happening to me or even how it keeps happening to me so I just observe from my spot in the corner of the kitchen.
I watch my eyes open but they are not my normal green, they are the amber brown that I remember so well. My mother has hitched a ride in the Freya train.
"Really mom?" I murmur to myself, but to my surprise she looks right at me and grins.
"Sorry sweetheart this will only be for a little while."
Kristen visibly pales and looks around the room to see who my body is talking to but comes up with nothing. I guess my mom is the only one who can see me in my spirit form.
"Lucinda?" my aunt says shakily.
"The one and only!" My mom replies with a grin.
This is too weird. Asher's eyebrows shoot up. I see Vincent stand and hug my body close, which makes me feel slightly annoyed since he was attacking me not even two hours ago.
"Lucinda," he says softly. "I am sorry I had no idea you are no longer here. I did not mean to hurt your child." I roll my eyes at this.
"I see. Just know that if you ever lay a hand on my child again I will come back from the dead and tear you to pieces." She states. "Now let go of me so I can make you the sunlight potion, my child is waiting to have her body back."
Vincent releases my body and I see myself stand and head to the basement to create the potion. I sigh, wishing I had more control over when this happens to me. My aunt stands and follows my body downstairs leaving Vincent with Asher and Kristen, and of course me. The body less spirit. Talk about awkward.
I decide to see what I can do in this form, since I have no clue when I'm going to be able to have my body back. I try to grab a chair to sit and my hand slips right through it. I go up to Vincent and poke him in the arm. He looks around but obviously can't see me, but I know he felt it because he shivered at my touch. I decide to poke him again but in the neck this time and he swirls around in his chair.
"Freya I know that is you. Quit messing with me while you are in spirit form." he grumbles, which makes Asher and Kristen look at him funny.
Shrugging my shoulders I walk over to Asher and stroke his face with my transparent hand. His eyes snap up and for a second I swear he can see me. He sniffs the air and comes up with nothing. I decide to go downstairs where my body and my aunt are. My aunt is assisting in making the potion. They both work quietly and I just stand there silently in the doorway observing them interacting. My mom finally breaks the silence.
"I have missed you Jen." She says warmly. "Thank you for taking my daughter under your wing. If I was still around you know I would've already been teaching her everything she needs to know." My aunt grunts in response.
"Have you heard from my other half?" She must be speaking about my father, who has been missing for a long time now.
"No I haven't, I've heard a few rumors about him being spotted near Fae territory though. I have no idea why he would be over there." She replies.
My mom hums in response as she continues to mix the potion.
"How are you able to take over Freya's body?" My aunt questions. My mom turns the burner off and looks to my aunt with a soft smile on her face.
"The moon goddess has been granting me access. Our family is destined for great things and she saw the necessity for me being here." She replied mysteriously. "I cannot say more on the subject."
The potion is finished and she poured it out into five vials. "This should last him for a very long time. We have created five doses for him. He shouldn't bother you guys anymore after this." My aunt nods.
"I know how to create the potion properly now so should he need more I can make it." My aunt states as she brings the vials back upstairs.
My mom turns to me now that she is alone. "Are you going to keep borrowing my body?" I ask, slightly irritated at the situation I cannot control.
"Only in times of need, such as this one. Should you not be able to produce what he wanted he would have probably wanted something you would not have wanted to give me. Like your blood, or perhaps even your body." she states.
I scrunch my face up in disgust at that. "I know you don't like it when I do this so I will try to avoid it as much as I can. There is something I need you to procure though, something that previously belonged to me." She states.
"Like what? All of your belongings are in a storage unit in Vermont." I say.
"What I need you to find will not be there. I have a chest buried on this property, it contains my magical artifacts and my personal potion book, along with my own spell books and some old family heirlooms. Something that belongs to your father is in there and you can use it to track him down. Your father is a very powerful warlock who comes from a long line of great magic. The family is expanding and there is unrest among the covens. They are anticipating a war with the Fae over the deal that went wrong over your cousins. He will be helpful in protecting you all when the time comes." She says.
Her eyes glaze over as she listens to something only she can hear. "I must go now. Stay safe and find your father. That chest is buried on the same acre of land the hot spring sits on." she explains, as her soul leaves my body.
My spirit is pulled back into my body and I draw in a breath, gasping for air. This is definitely something I will never be comfortable with. I stretch and head back upstairs. As I enter the kitchen Vincent stands up, obviously hoping my mothers soul was still here. He sees my green eyes and sits back down dejectedly.
"Welcome back." Kristen says, hugging me. "It is so weird when that happens to you. I don't understand how it is even possible." I pull away from her embrace.
"Me either, to be honest." I state.
"It has never been recorded in our history of spirits being able to take over a live person, let alone a witch." my aunt adds.
As I sit back down at the table my aunt hands Vincent the five vials of potion her and my mother made. "This is enough to last you over a decade." she explains to him. He nods his head, grabbing the vials and storing them in his jacket pocket.
"Thanks. Your family members are residing in a coven in Vermont, you should go pick them up soon." he says, grabbing the notepad off of the refrigerator and scribbling an address down on it. He hands it to my aunt and walks out the door without so much as a goodbye.
Kristen exhales, sliding down in her chair. "I guess we will be taking a road trip here soon." she says tiredly.
"Yes, very soon. Make sure you let your job know." My aunt says, standing up and heading towards her bedroom. Kristen stands up and does the same, leaving me with Asher.
"I should be heading home." he says, standing and making his way to the front door. I follow him out to the porch grab his arm before he gets too far.
"Thank you for saving me earlier." I say, blushing slightly. He grins at me, pulling me into a hug he sticks his head in the crook of my neck. I hear him inhale deeply the place a kiss on my collarbone. As he pulls back he notices that I am red as a tomato, again. Laughing, he responds.
"No problem. Thank you for the amazing time." he winks at me as he shifts into his wolf, shredding his clothes. He darts into the woods and I stand outside for another minute, then head inside to go to bed.
