Survival Skill 33: Thou must use Google

My fingers grazed through the line of book spines on the shelf as an act of distraction. I was at the library at the moment and decided to study for the upcoming finals instead of stressing over everything that was going on in my head. I couldn’t stay at home. Dad came.

He was desperate to fix things up between us before he went to his flight. Rex Parker was still running through my head so I couldn’t imagine being angry with him and told him that I wasn’t a problem anymore. Dad only had to deal with Jamie. I immediately excused myself to study as soon as I heard Jamie’s bedroom door slam when Dad went upstairs.

I hadn’t talked to Rex yet and I planned to keep it that way until Graduation. Ignoring him wasn’t as hard as before because he always seemed distracted and he looked like he had no idea how to approach me. That was good though. It made life a lot easier.

I just had to ignore the fact that it felt like a chainsaw was cutting through my chest repeatedly in a slow sadistic manner that just makes me want to cry myself to sleep.

God. I was pathetic.

Sighing, I looked up to the line of books I was running my fingers over when I caught the sight of a familiar pair of beautiful brown eyes staring at me from the other side of the bookshelf.

Shit.

Taking my hands of the books like they suddenly burnt my skin, I hiked my backpack higher up my shoulder and started walking away. I didn’t get far because Rex Parker instantly caught my wrist when I had to cross from where he was.

“We need to talk,” he said.

My heart was hammering and I felt my breathless. Just looking at him makes me weak. I missed him so much. This can’t be happening. “U-uh, I have to – “

“That wasn’t a question, George.” He dragged me by the wrist to the back of the library and before I knew it, I was pinned to one of the shelves there, making me drop my backpack to the floor and had Rex’ muscular arms trapping me in. I tried my best to glare at him but I saw an emotion swirl in Rex Parker’s eyes that I rarely ever see.

Uncertainty.

“I don’t know what love is, okay,” he said, looking down and not meeting my gaze. “I-I never looked into it so I don’t know how to approach this situation at all.” He was really struggling with his words. Letting out a shaky breathe, he let his eyes fleet to mine. “S-so I decided to do some research.”

“What are you talking about?”

Rex let one of his arms fall to his sides limply before running a hand through his hair. “I decided to search in the internet how to determine if someone’s in love,”

My eyes widened ever so slightly. “Please don’t tell me you Google-d: How to know if you’re in love,”

He bit his bottom lip sheepishly.

A laughter escaped my lips before I could stop myself. Oh God. That was hilarious. I could imagine a nervous Rex Parker typing in those words at Google.

I was hushed by the people inside. “Shhhhhhhhhhhh.”

I clamped a hand to my mouth to subdue my constant laughter. Trying to contain myself, I looked up at Rex and saw him with his cheeks turning crimson red as an embarrassed smile fleeted to his lips.

“Shhh,” he said, leaning closer, causing me to stop my laughter because my breath got caught, “Desperate times called for desperate measures.” I couldn’t respond. How could I with the close proximity we were in? Rex noticed my mood changed and decided to get back on track. “So, I did my research to find out if I’m in love with you,” he said and I thought my heart stopped beating that moment. “I never considered my feelings to be love, George. You know I hate thinking about serious things.”
