"What do you mean, he escaped?"

"I mean, after I fired the gun, he just kind of disappeared..."

"Why did you fire the gun?"

   "He committed murder. I was--"

"Did you see him commit the murder?"

   "Well no, but--"

"Then you violated the law, and you can be tried."

I turn off my long-distance microphone and back away from the outside wall of the interrogation room.

I am David Hunt, an ironic name considering my status as a bounty hunter. I find criminals and turn them in, mostly. Today, it looks like I'm gonna find myself a serial killer.

The strangest part is that he always used a knife, and the stab wounds weren't enough to actually kill the victims. Also, he was caught in a hospital, visiting random patients in serious condition. Not a pattern of life you'd typically expect of a serial killer.

Why did he do what he did? Who knows. As long as he's around, people won't be safe. Also, I have a gun. Don't bring a knife to a gunfight, I think to myself.

I put on my sunglasses and walk away.
