It was years ago in an elementary school when a Jung Hoseok and another male student was forced to be partnered up for a simple project, according to that unknown student who happened to be talking to his friends way too closely behind a poor kid; which happened to be his partner.

When it was the class' presentation day, Hoseok's partner went ahead of him to present his simple work. Filling in the class about the elementary school classmate, about a Jung Hoseok, was such an easy task as there was nothing much to say about him:

"Hey guys!" He then points to his partner beside him standing. "This is Jung Hoseok!" The class already knew what would come out of his mouth.

"Jung Hoseok is a quiet kid."

"Jung Hoseok is alone all the time."

"Jung Hoseok is the only student who doesn't interact with his classmates."

"Oh! And also, Jung Hoseok has a mom and one older sister."

. . .

A series of monotone clapping ran across the dusty yet organized classroom. But the class never expected the next statement, arguably the most interesting statement to the class, which he would get scolded for publicly:

With a laidback tone, he said in one breath:

"Sorry that's it guys, he wouldn't tell me what happened to his father who's probably dead-"

The female class teacher interrupted as she shouted the rude kid's name along with a stern order: "Go stand outside the classroom, young man. We'll have a talk later."

The rude kid's partner was encouraged to continue the rest of the presentation, which earned him the solid A that his partner wanted.

. .

He expected the terrible sight in his environment, but Hoseok was yet again a witness of an indifferent crowd he was always forced to witness when the school bell rang as he was faced with the true colors of the society he lived in once more.

Never did he expect he would be faced with a harsher reality later on.

Regarding the kid's remark about his father, he was "surprisingly" indifferent to a rude, yet innocent perspective of the stranger who had no right to judge and label.

In response to that cruel kid's words, Hoseok still wishes (up until now) that his father did die of natural causes. All he knows up until now is that the man left his family for another.

He recalls this memory as he diligently wipes the cheap tables and a few chairs of the small eatety he works in, moving on to wipe a few more equipments within the kitchen. He shows no signs of being tired or bitter about his unreasonable shift hours nor the employee treatment. His family depended on him keeping the only job he can get (possibly in his country).

The simple fact is that Jung Hoseok is still underage, which meant that he was given a great blessing enough for his current employer to have a disregard for the teenager's natural rights.

Because he is being payed (a few meager dollars) weekly, the current employer took it upon himself to train the poor teenager in the best way possible he thought.

The miniature food establishment became a fortress for the proud employer to torture Hoseok physically and mentally. On the first day, Hoseok received hours of shouting about false personal accussations and a few private beatings for messing up procedures of his duties which were not taught to him. "The employer probably reasoned that one learns best in any job by extreme pressure.", Hoseok talked of this statement to the seemingly inattentive yet the only friend of his called Min Yoongi. He smiled throughout their one-way conversation as his employer wasn't there to hear him chat idly that one particular day in the past.

Hoseok admits to himself that his employer is only one of the many in the endless crowd of people who are indifferent, thus he decided that that employer isn't as bad as the probable existing small percentage of the crowd with a conscience would take his employer for.

Fortunately, he knows of three people who have room enough to care about his existence.

A connection he made a while back was with a Park Jimin, who approached him with a friendly smile out of nowhere. He couldn't figure out why and acted confused around him all the time, but he figured out when a group of students were with the friendly acquiantance. He smiled to himself, as he learned that person was friends with his bullies.

The recent one is a Min Yoongi who is a year senior, someone who he appreciated company as well. They met at his workplace, Yoongi was ordering something and was a witness to one of my beatings. He told me he did not speak of the event to anyone later on but he still treated me normally which he is thankful for. He developed a slow friendship with the fellow student, because he knew Yoongi wanted it slow as he seemed to be someone who didn't trust most people like him.

However, the one who has been there for him in his most terrible storms is his mother. His mother is his only family member he truly feels at ease with. Together, they work hard at their jobs for days on end to keep up with the hospital payments for his frail sister who hasn't woken up out of her five-year long coma.

Sometimes he laughs to himself because of his own shame. That shame of being in a poor family, having no father to rely on, being reluctant to open up to many of the strangers he had met, and having to endure an indifferent and harsh society. To him, these are his reasons why he chose not to disclose his dad's whereabouts. The fact that he knows he cannot change his circumstances whenever he wanted only made him feel helpless.

But never would he have thought he'd hear a somber tune that illustrated a familiar feeling orchestrated by a mysterious girl's delicate fingers, her singing only merely making him feel even more drawn to the unfamiliar song being sung.

He happened to be with Yoongi, coming with him late to school than usual but him being ready with both of their lunches for the day. They pass by an abandoned room and heard the girl playing music in the middle of an early day at school. Hoseok notices that Yoongi's attention was drawn to the girl as much he was. In the corner of his eyes would he see a few more male students being drawn to the unknown girl, not realizing the moment she had stopped until she turned her head to stare at him.

Directly at his way, piercing through the thin protection of his eyes.

At first, he felt unnecessarily intimidated of her stare; but that feeling ceased as soon as he saw within her gaze a feeling of depression based on her circumstance and how it affects her mentally. Though he did not wish this on anybody, he was relieved there was someone who may understand him better than himself.

As he's barely hanging on.
