The azure blue sky.... Nah. That's stupid. Starting any composition with that phrase. Okay. Let's try again.
Ahem.
It was your typical Sunday morning. Very typical. Clear skies, a slight breeze, warm and sunny. Like the weather in every single piece of school writing. Unless, of course, the main point is the rain. I decided to take a break from my computer and have a walk in the park. Just a short one, I told myself, I still have undone work. Which, by the way, I didn't really care about.
My spirits lifted as I approached the park. The flowers and trees were magnets, drawing me closer into their embrace. I have always appreciated the beauty of nature, but this park was one of my favourite relaxation spots.
It was named the Chi Han Park, after the person who had donated a thousand dollars to build this park. Rich. If I had that much money I would... Okay! I'm sorry! Back to the point! The park had a mini lake in the middle, surrounded by green shrubs and bushes. Trees swept overhead a dirt path around the entire park and flowers smiled everywhere.
I walked to the lake and sat down at the edge. Two other people were there, a joyous boy about five years of age and a young sexy lady, who was exercising, showing off her tanned skin and slim legs. The boy was skimming stones across the surface of the water, laughing delightfully whenever he managed to make his stone bounce at least once. Dangling my feet in the clear water, I closed my eyes and enjoyed the sonorous chirping and whistles of the birds.
Splash! Large waves crashed against my shins. I dismissed it as ‘one of those things that happen for no reason whatsoever’. But what caused me to open my eyes in a hurry was the ear-piercing shriek. What the... What in the world... Looking to the direction of the sound, I saw, in horror, that the young boy had fallen into the lake and was struggling for breath. Running along the side of the lake, I noticed that he was getting further and further away from the edge and towards the deep middle.
“Hold on, I’m coming!” I shouted as I kicked off my shoes and jumped in. I know, I know. I am so heroic. I reached him as he went under. I grabbed hold of his chin and held him up, my other hand supporting his back. However, he was too frightened at that time. He squealed, “Let me go, let me go!”
Kicking me hard in the stomach, he dog-pedaled backwards as I doubled over in pain. Ouch. Not exactly the smartest thing to do underwater, but I gasped for breath, only getting a lungful of water. My chest burned as I tried to surface. So much for my heroism.
Suddenly, an orange, donut-shaped thing appeared on top of me. I recognized it as a life buoy through my bleary eyes and grabbed on to it as it went up to the surface. Hacking in a few pants, I twisted around and saw the boy still struggling. He was tiring and would soon drown if I did not reach him in a matter of a few seconds. I knew that because I am a genius. I swam to him and stretched out my arm to him.
“Hold on to me!” I spluttered. He looked at me for a split second in terror, and managed to grab my hand. I pulled him towards me in one swift action as he fell unconscious. One hand supporting the boy, the other on the life buoy, I swam back to the edge.
Placing the boy gently on the soft grass, I looked around to see who threw in the life buoy and therefore, saved our lives. The lady from earlier ran forward and asked, “Are you alright? I saw what was happening in the water so I threw in the life buoy.” I nodded, my eyes drifting from the boy to her pretty face. God, she was beautiful.
“Thank you for saving not only one life, but two lives,” I told her gratefully, telling myself that I shouldn't get distracted by her and focus on the task at hand. I averted my gaze and kneeled down beside the boy. I managed to remember how to do CPR and he woke up. Yay. After giving him a sweet, he ran off, shouting, "Mummy! This nice man gave me this piece of candy!..."
Smiling, I turned back to the lady, "Hi! My name is..." Then I realized she was gone. I looked around frantically, but there was no sight of her. She had utterly and completely vanished. Damn...
