THE DAY I SAW SELENE was the day my life changed.
For better or worse, I couldn't say.
•••
It was warm summer day, and I was looking for adventure.
Because of a relatively bland high-school year, minus the fact that my best friend had took off for Cali, I wanted a thrill. Strange for such a normal guy such as myself, who liked to keep out of trouble.
So, I picked myself up, dressed up, and went to a club. It wasn't much different than the average one, with drunk people, bright, seizure-bringing lights, and people. Lots and lots of people.
Going straight for the bar, I ordered a beer. I didn't want to get into an accident driving back home. The smell of sweat assaulted my nose, leaving me the option of covering my nose.
My beer was handed to me, and I thanked the hippie-looking bartender.
At that exact moment, a girl—a woman— stumbled into my life. Quite literally.
And, to add to that cliche moment, it felt like time had stopped. My eyes were fixated on her face. Despite her blood-shot, mascara-stained eyes, red cheeks, and tousled s*x hair, I could tell she was a beautiful woman. Her eyes gleamed with sorrow and anger and... hunger. Like she was the predator and you were the prey.
"Hey, pretty stranger," she said with a flirtatious grin. She knew, that despite her less-than-amazing look that she was stunningly gorgeous. A small, soft indentation made itself known on her left cheek.
"Hi," I breathed. F*ck. Get yourself together, Leo.
"How about we go back to your apartment and f*ck like rabbits?" she whispered.
"I—uh, I don't think that's a g-good i-idea," I stammered, blinking rapidly.
A huge, bear-like man tumbled towards us, his eyes a troubled crimson and green. "Selene, lets go." He growled.
"Go away, Roger. Can't you see I'm busy?"
"With your new boy toy? Huh. That was fast." he retorted, his large hand curving into a dangerous fist. He cocked a large head towards me, before saying lowly, "Don't think your any special, pretty boy. She'll jump any thing with two legs and use you and dump before you can count to two."
He was gone.
How could I tell the guy that I knew her type? She was the reason guys were players, why they put up confusing walls, why everyone is afraid of love.
"Hey, uh, Selene.."
"I adore how you say my name," she purred. She cocked her head seductively toward the bartender and said lowly, "A sex on the beach, please. See if I could get you with that too."
Huh. Flirting while she's flirting. I was surprised that she came for me, given that I wasn't one of those muscly hunks she was probably used to.
"Don't bring yourself down like that, hon," she cooed. "You have the most amazing melted-chocolate brown eyes that people want to drown in. Your figure has just enough manliness for me to go mad for. Your lips... oh, your lips. They're such a perfect shade of pink... and so soft looking. Like... they're untouched. Unused. Innocent."
During this, she had leaned towards me enough for me to see the lighter shades of emerald flecks in her eyes, and the way her pupils were significantly dilated, and her crimson red smudged lips were slightly parted, revealing glaringly white teeth.
I was perhaps the tiniest bit turned on.
"Makes me wanna... ruin you. Your innocence."
I inhaled sharply. "How old are you?"
"20, now kiss me," she said softly, pulling me towards her sharply.
"I-"
Before I could finish the sentence, soft yet chapped lips were pressed to mine.
Her lips were dangerous, like drugs, and they pulled in you in while screaming at you to get away.
I moved in sync with her, and her tongue prodded me to let her win. But I didn't.
"Open the f*ck up," she moaned.
I did.
I tasted alcohol and tobacco; mint and misery; bitterness and bourbon; and sweetness.
I supposed her kisses were how she got men to fall under her spell, because I was bewitched.
"Come home with me," she murmured, pulling away.
"No... I... can't. I don't wanna be another one of your stupid conquests."
She smiled sadly, "I wish I could promise you I would stay faithful. I wish I could promise you the world if you be with me. But the only thing your going to get out of this is a good f*ck."
With that, the storm that is Selene disappeared, a blur of red and rain and sadness and sorrow.
