I pulled up to the old gym with a nervous feeling building the closer I got. I was in my normal S.H.I.E.L.D catsuit. Coulson designed it specifically for me with cherry blossoms going up the side of each of the legs. It was late on a Friday night which seemed unusual for anyone to be here. As I entered the gym I could already hear the sound of fists hitting a punching bag furiously. I enter the room where I see the captain in a fit of rage, completely shut off from everything around him, except for the punching bag that he's mercilessly destroying. I stand aghast at the man in the center of the room. He was said to be quite good looking but, damn.
"Having trouble sleeping?" I asked hoping to gain his attention.
"I slept for seventy years, ma'am, I think I've had my fill." He said staring back at me with eye as blue as the ocean. Seems almost fitting, I mean he was at the bottom of it for seventy years.
"Then you should be out celebrating, ya know exploring the new things from the generation, let me tell you it can be pretty cool sometimes, you should be out seeing the world." I said with a small smile on my face as I tried to ease the tension in the room. He unhooked his punching bag and brought it to the other side of the room; then he started to unravel the tape on his hands. He sat down with a lopsided grin. Which quickly turned back into a look of Longing? Sadness?
"I went under, the world was at war, I wake up, they say we won. They didn't say what we lost."
"Well, it seems like we've made some mistakes along the way; some very recently" I said becoming serious again.
"You here with a mission?" he said eyebrows slightly furrowed.
"Indeed I am" I said with my lips slightly curving up.
"Trying to get me back in the world?"
"Trying to save it." I hand him one file about the tesseract and the others on Hydra's projects. He looks down at the picture of the tesseract and his face shifts into an expression of anger.
"Hydras secret weapon." He said looking up from the file.
"Howard Stark fished that out of the ocean when he was looking for you. He thought, a-at least this is what we believe his purpose was for it, was that the Tesseract could be the key to unlimited sustainable energy. That's definitely something the world sorely needs." I said with a small stutter to my words, but still remaining serious.
"Who took it from you?" He asked very curtly.
"His name is Loki. he's not um from here. There's quite a lot of things we will have to bring you up to speed on. Which I can definitely help you with. The world has gotten a lot stranger then you already know." I said with a small giggle at the end.
"At this point, I doubt anything would surprise me." he said with a sly smirk on his face.
I scoffed, "Ten bucks says you're wrong. There's a debriefing packet waiting for you at your apartment. Consider it we definitely need you cap." I said as I watched him pick up the punching bag and start walking out of the gym.
"Is there anything you know about the tesseract we 'oughta know?" I asked before he left the room.
"You should have left it in the Ocean." He said before he walked out without another word. I let out a sigh. I sat on the bench closest to the wall and tried to decipher whether that went well, or really bad. The captain wasn't what I was expecting. I thought he would be more egotistical, and more 'high and mighty'. I can't help the feeling that I messed up somewhere, but hey who cares if he doesn't like me Nat'll just knock some sense into him for me. I looked around the gym one last time before I got up and left for my next destination, Home. Once I got into my car I looked around the lot, the motorcycle that was there was missing. Huh, who knew Cap rides a motorcycle? I switched on the radio and drove home to research as much about the tesseract, and everyone else that Nick is bringing in. He asked me, not only to be part of the frontline attack force, but be in the lab and doing whatever I can to track it. Lets just say, I got no sleep last night. I mean how could I with worrying about Clint, trying to figure out what the hell I did wrong with the captain, and trying to wrap my head around why the hell Fury wants the tesseract so bad.
