He is reborn... For past life has taken its toll.
They were forgotten with time, but he is the real lost one. Where will life take him now...(In dream) "Hello."
"Hey." They smile. "Where are we going next?" Another distant voice speaks up, "Only time will tell."
"I have a question though."
"What would that be?"
"Will you... ever... forget... m..." All at once the voices vanish...You are all alone... again...?
"Ahh!" (Looks at clock) "Again, with this same old dream." I sigh as I stare out the window. "When will this end?" I take another glimpse of my room before getting up. I go for my glasses inside my bedside table and go for the door. I go down the stairs that creek with every step. I reach for the handle and prop open the door. "Rain..." I close the door and head back up to my room. "That's fine. I can work with that." I walk over to my coat rack and grab my long robe like coat and go outside. I lock the door and go out for a stroll. It's the same old streets with the same old wind and same old street lights. However it's not your same old night. It's usually very quiet. But tonight is anything but quiet. I turn a corner and come upon a man whose on his phone with no cover from the rain. His hair was soaked but he came off as rather happy. As I passed him I couldn't help but to hear him chuckle. "Yeah... I'll talk to you later Carl." I hear the person on the other side respond back. "Shut up dude!"
"What ever you say Carl. Night creamdip." I stop as he hangs up the phone. I turn around to see him looking back at me. He goes on to talk, "Hey dude. Didn't think I'd see another late night walker." I respond back to him quietly, "Neither me."
"Sorry about the call. I'll try to keep quiet next time."
"You're fine." I stare at him for a long moment of silence. He breaks it in no time. "You on your way home?"
"Soon. Just needed to get out to think."
"Don't you have someone to talk to? " He asked me, raising an eyebrow. I shake my head in response. "No one."
"No brothers? No sisters?"
"Nope. My brother doesn't live anywhere near here." He has no answer back. He grows a look of concern. "If you want, I could talk with you." I rebuttal, "Don't you have people back home?"
"Just my pals." He says in a funny yet chill tone. I take a moment to answer. "Sure... you can come back with me."
"Cool." He puts his fist out and I bumped mine back at him. He smiled and swung his arm around my right shoulder. "Cheer up dude!" I lightly smile back. He goes on, "Good, now onward my good pal." Him and I walked together back to my place. I show him around and we get to talking. "Here, you want a drink?" I ask my guest. "Some tea would be fine." He takes his coat off and makes him self comfortable on the small couch in the corner of the room. After minutes of brewing I bring him his tea and bring myself one. I place the sugar and creamer on the round table and let him tend to his drink. "Ahh... so fresh." He exclaims as if it were his first time in forever to taste such a hot drink. "So... now to introductions. My name is Thomas but..." He takes another sip of tea, "But everyone knows me by Tommy." He smiles acting suffocated. It doesn't suit him the best. He comes off as chill and laid back yet in a way humorous. I proceed to tell him my name. "My name's Nicholas. You can just call me Nick."
"Alright, 'Nicholas', why are you here by yourself?"
"Who knows. Never made connections." I shrug my shoulders and mix around the spoon in my mug. He looks up from his mug. "No childhood friends I would guess." I nod my head at Tommy's question. "Well then Nick. Consider yourself no longer lonely." He smiles again, "You can meet my friends. They are a weird bunch." I let out a stiff and small chuckle. He notices and goes on, "Their, names are Cory and Uni. We go back a long way." I put my mug down. Tommy goes on. "Wait until you see them."
"I hope I can loosen up to them."
"Trust me, if you can handle me, the coolest one by a landslide, then you can handle those two." He places his mug down. "Here, I'll give you my contact information." He pulls out his phone, a paper, and a pen, and writes down on the paper. "Here's my number. Oh... and... address..." Tommy says as he writes it down with quick but strikingly readable handwriting. "Here, can I see your phone?" I ask him. "Yeah sure." He hands me his mobile device and I type in my number and my name to his contacts. "Here you go." I lean forward and hand him his phone back. He takes it and places inside his coat. "I guess I'll be on my way." He gives me a goodbye solute and turns the knob. As he opens the door he jumps. "What happened Tommy?"
"Just some lightning."
"How about you stay here till it clears up."
"But, they called for heavy showers all night."
"Then we'll have to sit it out. If you want you can crash on the couch." I point over to the small lump of felt and material he was previously sitting on. "That works." He throws his coat on the couch and throws himself on as well. "Night I guess Tom."
"Night to you too Nick." And with that I head up stairs back to my bed. I replace my glasses and keep my robe like coat on. This is how it all started. The day I made a friend who in some unknown way saved my life.Word Count: 1025
