They quickly walked through the hallway and out the front doors of the school. "Do you have car?" She asked him and he nodded. "Yeah, follow me." And he led her to his old black truck. He gestured for her to get in as he did. "So, what's your name?" She asked him. "Seriously? Mason. You sat next to me in homeroom." He said what a duh look on his face. "Oh, right. Sorry. I wasn't really paying attention to anything." She said sounding genuinely sorry. "No, it's cool. I get it." He said while putting his key in the ignition.
"Well, I'm not going to force you to tell me what happened back there." He quitely said. "Thanks, I kind of have issues. None that are worth talking about right now." After saying that her stomach growled. He laughed, "Hungry much?" He asked as he backed out of the school parking lot. She lightly put her hand on her stomach. "I'm good." She replied with a shrug. "Right, right." He said sarcastically as he continued to drive. She rolled her eyes at him and stuck her tongue out. "Oh, nice. Very mature." He chuckled as he pulled into a McDonalds drive-thru.
"So what do you want?." Mason asked turning towards her. "Dude, it's cool. I really don't want anything." She said and her stomach growled again. She quickly looked down at her stomach with a grimace. "Uh huh." Mason said as he turned back towards the menu. "Okay, let me have two Big Mac meals with extra fries, two large Dr.Peppers, and six chocolate chip cookies." He said and turned his head to wink at Scarrlet. She looked at him with a shocked expression and then smiled.
Once he got their food, he parked in an empty space in the Mcdonalds parking lot. He opened his window and spit out his gum, then put a few fries in his mouth. As he did, Scarrlet opened the box of her burger and practically swallowed it whole. "Woah, slow down there little Ms.I'm Not Hungry." He said with a smirk. "Oh, shut up." She said while taking a sip of her Dr.Pepper. "So, want to chill at my place?" She asked taking a bite out of a cookie. "Sounds better than going back to school." He replied before taking a bite out of his own burger.

"You live in this apartment by yourself?" Mason asked as Scarrlet put her keys on the hook by the door. "No, I live here with my older brother Ren." She said, taking her shoes off. "Oh, and where is he?" He asked, sitting on top of the counter. "At work I guess. I don't really know." She said as she plopped onto the couch. "Get down from there. Me and my brother eat on that counter." She scolded.
"Fine, sorry. So, what's up?" He said while sitting down next to her. "Ah, life sucks." She said looking up at the ceiling. He snorted, "Tell me something I don't know." He said, scratching the back of his neck. They were silent for a moment as he turned his head to look at her, still looking up at the ceiling. "So, what's your story?" He asked in a soft voice. She looked him in the eyes and asked, "You really want to know?" He gave a little nod in response. "Well," she hesitated for a moment before continuing. "Alright." She finally said, taking her eyes away from him.
"Okay, well when I was about four I met this little boy named Marshall. We met by me wanting to go on the swings one day, but he wouldn't let me pass so I kicked him and he started bleeding." She said with a hint of laughter in her voice. "Well, ever since that day we were always together. We stayed friends as we grew up, we knew absolutely everything about each other. Not going to lie, we had the perfect friendship." She said with a smirk.
"Oh, I'm so sure." Mason said laughing. "No, I swear." She said as she brought her knees up to her chest. "Well, anyway. About four years ago Marshall introduced me to his close friend Zac and it was truly love at first sight. The moment I looked into those green eyes, I knew we were meant for each other." She let out a sad sigh and continued. "Well, he ended up asking me out and we fell in love. Me, Zac, and Marshall were inseparable. We always did everything together, we were all just so close." She got a sad look in her eyes as she kept speaking.
"Then about two years after me and Zac had been together, I was waiting for him and his older brother to come and pick me up to go to school. They never showed up. Later on that day I got a call, they told me Zac and his brother had gotten into a car crash. They had died." As she said that tears escaped from her eyes. Mason scooched closer to her and wiped her tears away with the sleeve of his jacket.
"When I found out, I thought I was going to die. I was seriously going to end my life right then and there. But, Marshall showed up at my door and stopped me. He already knew what I was thinking by the time he arrived at my house." Mason then began to stroke her hand as she continued to speak. "Me and Marshall cried together in my room for weeks. It was terrible, but at least I had him with me. He was the only person that could ever begin to understand what I was going through."
As Mason was listening to her speak he almost started crying himself, the way she spoke her words so meaningfully and full of sadness. "Marshall helped me get through everything. He was my only friend in the lonely world I lived in. So you could only imagine how devestated I was when he died in his sleep, on my lap last December." And as she said that, Mason brought her close and held her. She wrapped her arms around him, grabbed on to the back of his shirt and started silently crying into his chest.
