"Darling, can you please wear that purple dress, it makes you look so stunning. I'm sure Logan would love it." my mother demands rather than ask. She pops her head into my bedroom door before sauntering into my room, her heels clicking against the cold wooden floors.

"Yes, Mother." I sit down in front of my mirror and grab my brush, combing through my freshly washed hair. She places her hands on my shoulders and I subconsciously flinch, but she doesn't notice, she never does.

"Don't forget to blow dry your hair, Maise, no one likes soppy hair, you'll look like a dog." She cringes her nose as if the thought of frizzy hair is the worst thing that could happen to a person. I nod slightly and continue to work the brush through the knotted length of my hair. My mother watches me for a second before removing her hands from my shoulders and leaving the way she came, leaving the distinct scent of her Chanel perfume behind.

The droplets of water drips down into my lap and onto the floor, leaving small puddles. Once I finish task, I stand up and remove my robe and replace it with a long T-shirt and shorts, letting my hair dry naturally against my mother's wishes.

Padding across my room, I walk into the vastness of my closet and search for the deep purple dress. Spotting it, I grab the hanger off the rack and take it into the room. The beaded high neck halter dress hugs my body just right and the color brings out the green from my hazel eyes. I pick out a pair of silver pumps and place them on the floor. Grabbing my brush from the desk and walk back into my bathroom, pull out the blow drier from the cabinet and begin the long task of drying my hair. Mother wouldn't be happy if I did anything else.

Turning on my wireless speaker I begin to jam out, listening to the new pop songs on Pandora that I know will surely be played a thousand time soon the radio by next week. A loud ring of a phone signals that I have received a text. I stand up straight from my bent over position too fast, causing my vision to temporarily fade. Classic clumsy me, I stumble over to my bed, but on my way I ram my pinky toe into the foot of my bed.

"Shit." I cry out as I flop onto the bed, my foot already in my hands as I rock back and forth, examining the damage done to my baby toe. There seems to be no cuts, but I can't feel it. Which is better than not having a toe at all. Unlocking my phone I see a text from Logan:

Hey, I'll be there in 30 minutes, Niall and Evalyn are gonna meet us there. Hope you look sexy for me ;)

I close my phone without replying, and hobble back over to the bathroom to finish my task. I don't even want to go tonight. It's going to be pretentious and boring with the fancy foods the size of a peanut and Logan's sweaty palms on my thigh. I would much rather spend my night watching Netflix with a bowl of popcorn, but my mother thinks that would be lazy of me and that I need to, "get out into the world and show my status" whatever that means.  I pick up my phone and call Niall, "Oi, what's up Mai?" his thick accent is staticy through the phone. I smile at the way his smile seems to transfer into his words.
"Just getting ready for our date, you know, the usual Saturday." I sigh into the phone, he chuckles, "Oh come on, it won't be that bad. I know Logan is a little bit of a douche bag but you've only gone on a few dates with him, right?"
"Yea but he sent me a winky face, Niall. A freakin winky face." I shutter at the thought of my irrational fear on the semicolon connected to the parenthesis.
"Oh jeez, already? Damn he moves fast. I mean, I knew he seemed like a bit of a player but I didn't think he would whip of the winky faces. The nerve of that boy, should just dump him now," Niall jokingly teases.
"You never seize to be an ass do you?" I laugh, "I mean, at least you're going to be there. How is Evalyn anyway? This is going to be your... what, fourth date?" I clench the phone in between my cheek and my shoulder, walking over the the dress and picking it up to examine it.
"Shes incredible," he almost shouts from excitement.
"Niall calm down, I can sense the boner and blush you have right now."
"Oh fuck off, Mai."
"I'll see you tonight lover boy. I expect you to looks sharp, our parents would expect nothing less." I say signalling the end of our conversation.
"You too, bye" I hang up and throw the phone onto my pillows, mentally preparing for my struggle to get into the dress.

Taking off my T-shirt, I slip the dress over my head and tug it down, a sequence catching on my hair causing a knot and an amusing scene. Finally tugging the hem ont he dress down, I walk over to the mirror and examine my soft make up, running the mascara wand through my lashes on last time. Pushing my hair to the side, I take one last look in the mirror before slipping on my heels.

Closing the door to my room, I head down the hallway, my heels clicking with each step, making my journey to the front door almost musical, almost enjoyable.
"Goodbye mother." I monotonously announce.
"Bye sweetheart, have fun," I see her walk around the corner to face me, "You look stunning." she smiles at me and pushes me out the front door to Logan's car.
"He's a nice boy, Maise, please don't mess this one up for me. We need this." me, she says, like she is the one going on the date. I blink my eyes and remember that Niall will be there, he's my best friend. I'm doing this for him and Evalyn, I remind myself. I plaster a fake smile on my face, nod a goodbye, and saunter to the gates of hell, a.k.a Logan's silky, black Range Rover car door.
