WORD COUNT: 9000+~*~
"Stop," you giggled, curling away from the prince's touch. The carriage came to a steady halt, and you were aware of Sir Ashton chatting with the driver at the front. Michael's face was still nuzzled into your neck, his blonde hair tickling your chin. He was pressing sloppy kisses to your throat, whining slightly as you squirmed. You shied away from him, trying to pry his hands from where they were curled around your waist.
"Michael, stop," you said breathily, your eyes widening as footsteps approached the door of the carriage.
You pushed the prince away just as the door swung open, revealing Sir Ashton standing outside. He stuck his head in, grinning widely, and at the moment, you were extremely glad for his obliviousness—he wasn't exactly aware of your situation with the prince.
"Hey," Ashton directed the word towards Michael, "We're here. You ready?"
"Hell yes," Michael breathed, trying to peer past his friend in order to catch a glimpse of the busy market outside.
You almost laughed at his excitement—he was practically buzzing, his fingers twitching in anticipation. You couldn't help but to feel slightly honored that he'd chosen to bring you along to witness his first time going to the village.
Outside, the market was buzzing with commoners. Blue skies were painted all along the horizon, and the sun was beaming down upon you. It was warm and cheerful, and the prince couldn't have picked a better day to make his debut in the town.
"You remember everything I told you, right?" Michael asked, "Stay close, but not too close. I don't really want to draw attention to myself."
"You got it," Ashton nodded.
You smiled at their friendship, noticing how the knight wasn't afraid to relax around his friend, despite Michael's royal status. It made the both of them seem far more approachable, and it definitely helped them blend in to the casual atmosphere of the commoners.
The trip to the town hadn't taken too long. In fact, you had deemed riding in the carriage as a luxury, seeing as every time the queen sent you out to buy produce, you'd had to travel the distance on foot. You would leave early in the morning and often arrive back at the castle after sunset. Michael would then find you in the large kitchen of the palace, sneaking up behind you and whisking you off to perform the unholiest of activities in his bedroom.
You shook those thoughts from your mind as Ashton stepped away from the carriage, allowing Michael the space needed to exit the small compartment. Michael ducked his head as he emerged, planting his feet squarely on the ground before straightening up again. Ashton then turned to you, holding out his hand, but the prince noticed and stepped in before you could accept the knight's polite offer.
"I've got it," Michael muttered, almost shoving his friend out of the way. Ashton retreated slightly, an eyebrow cocked in confusion.
You cringed slightly and felt your face heat up; thankfully, the knight didn't question Michael's actions, opting instead to turn around and strike up another conversation with the driver of the carriage.
You looked down at Michael's pale hand before lifting your arm, sliding your palm against his—butterflies took off in your stomach as you noticed how you both fit together perfectly. Michael turned his head to the side, almost as though he was watching for any onlookers. When he found none, he quickly brought your hand up to his face, kissing the back of your palm tenderly. You gulped.
