1. Relax your shoulders. Building up tension in your body will make your singing worse.
2. If you're going to sing standing, stand with your legs shoulder-length apart and one foot forward.
3. If your going to sing sitting, do the same thing as above, and don't cross your legs.
4. When you sing higher notes, you instinctively lift your shoulders and chin. Do not do this. This will work temporarily, but it will damage your vocal cords.
5. When you breathe, use your diaphragm. That means don't breathe with your chest, but with the muscle under your lungs (your stomach should expand when breathing like this).
6. Don't drink/eat dairy products before singing. It can make you build up mucus inside the throat. Instead, drink lots of water and stay hydrated. If you can, sing in a warm room and drink warm water.
7. Try saying your vowels. A E I O U. You probably closed your mouth on E and U. Fit two fingers inside your mouth and say your vowels. If you noticed, you'll sound more clearer.
It'll be awkward at first, but once you practice this, it'll build into your muscle memory.
8. Always warm-up before singing. You always warm up before heading into a sports game, right? It makes your muscles more flexible and prepared. It's the same thing wi1th your vocal cords.
Hum an easy song within your vocal range for a few minutes, then move on to a harder song and hum for another few minutes.
9. Siren sound. You know that sound ambulances make when they pass by? Yeah, you want to mimic that sound. If you practice this sound a few times every day, it can help you sing higher notes. This is also called your mix voice.
10. Of course, don't sing when you are sick. It can shred your vocal cords, and you'll only regret it.
11. Suck in as much air as you can and breathe out through your mouth like you are blowing a balloon. This alone can help you sing better.
Practicing your breathing can help you maintain air for longer, helping you support those long notes.
12. Using more air does not help you sing higher notes.
Are you surprised? Contrary to belief, using less air helps better. This is why you practice 11#.
Huffing out lots of air doesn't mean you will reach higher notes. Storing a lot of air in your stomach and using that slowly is what you are supposed to be doing.
13. Don't sing when you are tired. Singing is a very physical and mental activity that needs energy. Get enough rest and sing when you are pumped.
14. Keep your adam's apple steady. When your staring off into space while singing, your voice could crack. Concentrate. Hold your adam's apple and keep it from shaking.
15. Record yourself. As much as you hate it, you need to record yourself singing. Listen to your voice and fix your flaws. Even though you think you sound good, your voice sounds way different then you think it is.
16. Get your tongue out of the way. Your singing could sound kind of muffled. It could be because of your tongue. Bring the tip of your tongue to the back of your bottom teeth.
17. Confidence. Sing with confidence. Have you ever seen an insecure singer on stage? If you have, did you like how they looked? Confidence is what attracts. If you make a mistake, don't wince. Pretend you didn't make a mistake and people might not care.
It would ineffective to do all of these at once because the human brain can only process so much.
So practice a few of these everyday, and when you have made a habit, move on to the next.
