Note: this is a drabble but if people really like it could become a story. Cheers.

He's still yours.

The Dom spoke warmly to him, making him smile. Brian was eyeing me as if waiting for me to end this charade and snatch him back or to leave and let Puppy carry on. Neither options made me feel satisfied; too much time and energy had gone in for me to toss it out this way. "Wait," my voice was louder than expected and Brian jumped a bit.

The Dom turned around in surprise and Puppy shuffled his feet as if looking at me was painful. I couldn't blame him. He was here expecting to be given away. "Mr. Briggs?" the Dom drawled expectantly.

Scott King's last sub had died three years ago and he made no move to find another until tonight. He was wealthy and affluent within his own social group so I couldn't help but wonder why. That bothered me a bit. It was sudden, too sudden. "I've changed my mind."

He had just crested the age of adulthood, our worlds could open up together. There could be connections beyond the roadblocks we've bumped into. And we did connect in the time together. He was eager, he was well trained and he could be shaped. I could give a bit more, be a better Dom. "You have?" Scott seemed disappointed and maybe, just a bit relieved. "All right then. It was very nice to meet you Puppy."

The sub was staring at me, stuffed toy drawn up against his chest. He looked absolutely stunned, a bit frightened and quite excited. This was his second chance to please, I assumed. "Thank-thank you Sir," he uttered voice trembling. "I'll be a really good boy this time, I triple promise!"

Scott glanced at him again and a protective noise of warning rose in my throat. Scott glanced my way then approached Brian who stood. "That mare is going to breed some winners, I can already tell."

Brian chuckled as Puppy continued to gaze toward me seemingly stuck. Brian clapped my shoulder as he followed Scott out, still discussing breeding. "Was this a punishment Sir?" Puppy asked in a whisper once they voices had faded. Tears choked his voice up some. "Because I was a bad boy?"

"No." I cocked a finger in his direction, instructing him to come closer. "We just have work to do together. You're still my sub."

"Thank you Sir," he knelt in front of me, head bowed deeply as he let out a sob of relief. "Thank you so much Sir!"

I ran my fingers through his hair to calm him as the waitress set my drink to the side. Gin, dry, sated me as I pondered where this would go. How I would make this innocent sub fit into my life. It would be a challenge that I was ready to face.

a/n: so I was gone for a while and I kept track of my notifications for a while and I got a message asking 'what if Puppy stayed' and I was like... Huh. That's an interesting idea. I have had no muse to write until this came along so here it is. If you like it and would like to see it continue please comment and let me know!

Important notes: this is PUPPY before Heal My Heart. This is me working through to see if they're compatible or not. I can't promise they'll end up together because it really depends. Connor is still the same Connor people loved to hate and Puppy is as impressionable and naive as ever.
