Setting: A large home. Two women sit in the living room, arguing. Both look as if they want to be anywhere but there, however, they suffer through the other’s presence.

Tiffany: ¨You know you have to get into Brown, Kelly. These next few weeks will define the rest of your future.¨ She pats down her daughter’s hair and clothes.

Kelly: ¨Mother, you picked the clothes. They are fine. I'll do fine. I'm everything they want. A model student, an athlete, a leader, and best of all my father has money. Why wouldn't they jump at the chance to have me as on their elite?”

Tiffany: ¨We can't get cocky sweetheart, there are plenty of people just like you.¨ Kelly looks down at the floor. The dynamic between mother and daughter is tense. They seem awkward and disconnected, but Kelly is clearly there to please her mother. Kelly quickly sets a determined look on her face, looking prepared to face the world.

Kelly: ¨I'll make an impression that stands out; separate myself from the rest. You'll see. I'll show them I'm my father's child and represent you both well.”

Tiffany: ¨I will believe it when I see it. Don’t let us down. Now, your mother has things to do, so go do something for a while.” Kelly drifts from the room as Tiffany begins to play on her phone.
