Liam's P.O.V.
I sighed as I dropped the last of the tightly packaged cardboard boxes containing almost every possession I own; rolling my shoulders to relieve some of the tension and stiffness that was aching to be noticed.
The stale air in the room tickled the back of my throat resulting in the inevitable coughing fit that ensued. My eyes slowly adjusted to the dimly lit room; thick, dark curtains blocking out any sunlight that may have shone through whatever was hidden behind, assuming of course that what they were concealing was in fact a window.
I honestly don't know what to make of it. "My new residence" could only be described as the spitting image of a classic dorm-room, down to its every last insignificant detail; the shoe-box size, the bed which takes up the majority of the room and the faint smell of bleach and sweat masked by an insufficient amount of air freshener (the latter bit being uncomfortably evident). However, it did happen to be a bit more luxurious with its complimentary spider webs and dust which practically scream, "welcome! We hope you enjoy your stay at our very well cared for facilities".
I took a deep breath and decided that I should analyze the room first before allowing my perfectionism to run into overdrive; unfortunately, in order for that to happen, I needed to be able to actually see more than just a few centimetres in front of my face. So naturally I slowly made my way across the wooden floor, which never failed to creak with every footstep. I climbed on top of the somewhat average sized bed and kneeling, opened the curtains which brought forth a blinding light that was less than anticipated or welcomed for that matter. As I squinted and admittedly glared at the source of sunlight that burned my corneas, I began my assessment of what was now my living quarters. The quite large window situated above the wooden headboard provides a great view of the area which I really can't complain about. Shaking my head in awe I gaze out the window and take in the secluded yet breathtakingly beautiful scenery which consisted of nothing but mostly nature. Large pine and several Japanese "Sakura" or cherry blossom trees surrounded the premises, as well as a flower garden that was well kept and tended to. The faint sound of birds happily chirping could be heard in the distance and it could only be described as the definition of serenity.
"Its not the cleanliest of residents", my dad said with a nervous smile (I imagine) as he leaned against the door-frame in one last attempt to convince me to finish my schooling back home. I couldn't help but feel a hint of guilt ping my chest at making the decision to move out.
No, I needed to do this; to detach myself from the life I once lived and embark on a new journey that would allow me to become the version of myself I always dreamed of becoming, proving to everyone in my God-forsaken town that I would make something of myself. I am determined. I know you're thinking that that's just sad and that I could have just become whatever I strived to be at the local college rather than the university located three and a half hours away and save myself quite a hefty amount of cash. But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't sick of my shitty town that never failed to remind me that I would end up going no where in life, probably get some poor girl pregnant and have to spend the rest of my days raising four obnoxious kids who would one day drive me to drink myself to death.
Be that as it may, I was still relatively/extremely broke and needed to get a job if I wished to overcome such a small technicality.Ok, major technicality.
Ok, so the mountain that blocked my path and pinned my wings.
But, just as luck would have it, my mother stumbled upon this opportunity through a long list of friends that I did not care to remember, taking the job almost instantaneously even though being a part of the waiting staff that tended to every single need of some snotty upperclass bloke wouldn't be my first choice. It was better than nothing and in my case the only alternative would be nothing, so I pulled up my socks and took on the task like a soldier. But for some unfathomable reason my family was not in favour of that, quite the opposite really. The pay was decent, food was provided and other necessities such as a place to stay was all covered. It would have been foolish to pass it up, but yet my parents seemed very reluctant.
